It was written by Michael Lesslie (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed, and Hamlet), Paul Wernick (Deadpool franchise, Twisted Metal, Zombieland franchise, G.I. Joe: Retaliation, and Life), Rhett Reese (Cruel Intentions 3, 6 Underground, Ghosted, Deadpool franchise, and Zombieland franchise), and Seth Grahame-Smith (Dark Shadows, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, The Lego Batman Movie, Just Beyond, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice). It was produced by Alex Kurtzman (Sleepy Hollow, The Mummy, Star Trek franchise, Eagle Eye, Fringe, Hawaii Five-0, Now You Can See Me franchise, and The Amazing Spider-Man 2). The budget was $90,000,000 and it grossed $242,338,934 worldwide at the box office. The Four Horsemen which includes J. Daniel Atlas (played by: Jesse Eisenberg from Now You Can See Me franchise, Zombieland franchise, and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice), Merritt McKinney (played by: Woody Harrelson from Now You Can See Me franchise, Zombieland franchise, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage), Jack Wilder (played by: Dave Franco from Now You Can See Me franchise, Neighbors franchise, and Scrubs), and Henley Reeves (played by: Isla Fisher from Now You Can See Me franchise, Wedding Crashers, and The Lookout) make their big return after being gone for years to expose a greedy business woman Veronika Vanderberg (played by: Rosamund Pike from Gone Girl, Die Another Day, and The World’s End). They are joined by a new generation of illusionists which includes Charlie (played by: Justice Smith from Jurassic World franchise, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, and The Get Down), Juno (played by: Ariana Greenblatt from Avengers: Infinity War, Borderlands, and Barbie), and Bosco (played by: Dominic Sessa from The Holdovers, Oh. What. Fun., and Tow). They all perform mind-melding twists, turns, surprises, and magic unlike anything ever captured in front of a live audience!!!! Now You See Me: Now You Don’t came out of nowhere. I honestly never expected this to turn into a trilogy. They haven’t done one of these since 2016, it feels more like passing the torch to a younger group than anything. J. Daniel Atlas has the most screen time from the originals but all of the others show up eventually here. It mainly focuses on the Charlie, Juno, and Bosco characters as they try to make names for themselves in the same type of way. This 3rd film manages to include the original team, a new team, Lula, Dylan Rhodes, and Thaddeus Bradley all together. The script gives enough material for everyone in this so it has a nice balance with all of the important roles here. Jesse Eisenberg is fantastic as the charismatic performer J. Daniel Atlas. He’s brought back into this familiar world. Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan (Cloverfield, Hot Tub Time Machine, and The Night Before), Morgan Freeman (Batman franchise, The Shawshank Redemption, and Se7en), and Mark Ruffalo (The Avengers franchise, Collateral, and Zodiac) slide right back into their old characters like they never left. This caper is loaded with plenty of talent. The chemistry is off the charts so that’s why these ensemble features work. Justice Smith, Ariana Greenblatt, and Dominic Sessa are all solid as the younger talent but I prefer the others over them. They seem to be pushing hard for some kind of spin-off with them at some point. The beautiful Rosamund Pike as the villain Veronika Vanderberg is the best new addition to this popular magic crime series. She usually doesn’t play this type of role but she’s impressive as the greedy and shady business woman. The rest of the supporting cast includes Andrew Santino (Ricky Stanicky), Thabang Molaba (Diamond City), William Gaminara (Silent Witness), Dominic Allburn (Between Two Worlds), and Ricky Velez (The King of Staten Island). These Now You See Me films are always loaded with twists and surprises, this newer one is no different. They are always creative when it comes to that, that’s a highlight every time. It has a strong mix of comedy, action, tension, drama, crime, suspense, and a little heist added to it all. The illusions, tricks, and impressive stunts all make this so much more entertaining. It does feel very similar to the past ones but they know what exact formula vibes with this fun universe. Regardless, I’m glad they made this reunion happen and I think it’s a proper finish for all of the original members. It has quality replay value to it, I’d definitely revisit it again soon. This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer is very flashy and stylish. Now You See Me: Now You Don’t looks great on home video. It’s all about performance, visuals, and illusions so this one. It has a variety of audio options which includes English: Dolby Atmos, English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, and Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks on the disc. The audio really picks up during the shows and the performances. All of the dialogue is crisp, the thrills are elevated, and the music has a big boost to it. It has English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director Ruben Fleischer and producer Bobby Cohen. It has the little over 8 minute “Lord of Illusions”. This focuses on director Ruben Fleischer and his take on this caper series. He talks about why he joined this 3rd feature. He mentions keeping it with the same style as the others. It has the little over 9 minute “Now You See Me… Again”. It has interviews with Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher. The cast reflects on coming back together again after all these for this reunion. They chat about what motivated them to return to this. It has the almost 7 minute “Heart of Stone”. This is dedicated to villain Veronika Vanderberg and actress Rosamund Pike. It has the little over 6 minute “Quick Change”. This is all about the costumes and wordrobe changes within all of the unique characters in this. It has the little over 8 minute “Nothing Up My Sleeve”. This is an inside look at the magic from Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. It’s a cool glimpse on how they pulled off some stuff here with the consultants. It has the almost 5 minute “The Magic Castle”. This showcases location and production design. It takes you on a tour to 4 different sets from the sequel. It goes over some of the challenges from it all. It has little over 13 minutes of “Deleted and Extended Scenes” from the cutting room floor. It has the “Theatrical Trailer” for Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.
