No Tears In Hell Blu Ray Review (Darkside Releasing)

No Tears in Hell is a 2025 true crime horror film written, produced, and directed by Michael Caissie (Speak of the Devil, Hunter’s Moon, Second Chances, and Purgatory). It’s produced by Bernard Salzmann (The Devil’s Trap, The Curse of the Clown Motel, The Weapon, Demon Hunters, Redwood Massacre: Annihilation, and The Lurking Fear). It’s based on 90’s Russian serial killer Alexander Spesivtsev aKa the Novokuznetsk Monster and the Siberian Ripper. His mother Lyudmila Spesivtseva helped him with his notorious murders and heinous crimes. It follows a sick Mother (played by: Gwen Van Dam from Dark Shadows, The Brady Bunch, Halloween, The Kentucky Fried Movie, Legion of the Dead, ER, and Gilmore Girls) and her psychotic son Alex (played by: Luke Baines from Shadowhunters, The Girl in the Photographs, Under the Silver Lake, Truth or Dare, American Fright Fest, and The Possession of Michael King) that turns an apartment into a living hell that’s full of unspeakable horror. In Alaska’s dark winter, they lure various unexpected victims into their dangerous home. Alex commits shocking acts of abuse, violence, and cannibalism with the help of his demented parent!!!! No Tears in Hell is inspired by the real life obscure serial killer Alexander Spesivtsev. Russia spawned some really evil people over the years like Andrei Chikatilo, Alexander Pichushkin, and Sergey Golovkin that were considered much bigger than the unknown Spesivtsev. He was only convicted of 4 deaths but he was suspected of murdering around 19 total because he got his prey from the streets where no one would really missed them so it’s honestly hard to say how many felt the wrath of the Serbian Ripper during his grotesque killing spree from 1991 to 1996. Especially considering his own mother helped secure his tortured visitors. They both dined with their flesh after the destruction. Independent director Michael Caissie took this morbid story and made his own version of it in the isolated Alaska. The script has a disturbing build up to this insane family that destroyed multiple lives. Lead actor Luke Baines reminds me a little of the iconic Norman Bates as the monster Alex. He has lost his grip on reality and he keeps pushes his limits when it comes to crime. He loves to beat, choke, and play with his targets. He uses their corpses for his sexual pleasure plus he serves some of them up as a meal later on. Veteran actress Gwen Van Dam is the supportive Mother. She encourages her son’s demented obsession and nasty acts. Without her help, he probably would have gotten caught much sooner. Everyone seems to trust an older lady and she’s the perfect distraction for something like this. What’s really messed up is the real lunatic that influenced this was actually released from prison and she was able to walk the earth again with the general public after these insane scenarios. The rest of the supporting cast includes Tatjana Marjanovic (Great White), Audrey Neal (Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama 2), Michelle Pokopac (Ms. Marvel), Gabriella Westwood (Second Chances), Lau’rie Roach (Witnessed), Jake Marlow (Blue Nights), Jamil Khan (The Walking Dead), Mark Wilson (Cobra Kai), Erik Fellows (Law and Order: Organized Crime), Kathy Butler Sandvoss (G.H.O.S.T.), and Ilir Fiora (The Irishman). No Tears in Hell has a good amount of graphic violence, torture, and death but it doesn’t compare to what really happened. They didn’t go that far when it comes to the true crimes. Alexander Spesivtsev was brutal and his methods of pain were beyond gruesome. Regardless, it has some solid special fx and gore. It takes the audience into the unstable environment of a mad man. It makes things even worse with the assistance of his mom. It has a relentless and nasty atmosphere to it. No Tears in Hell just keeps getting darker and darker as it goes on. It gets underneath in your skin because the viewer knows it’s based on a legit nightmare that took place. It doesn’t shy away from this grim reality and it doesn’t apologize for it’s mayhem. No Tears in Hell is way better than it’s reputation, this is how a serial killer and true crime adaptation should be. Yes, it’s not exactly the full event and it’s been changed but it still fits what it represents. It’s currently streaming on Tubi, Fawesome, and Plex if you want to experience this for yourself. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Darkside Releasing! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks amazing for it’s home video release debut. It looks much bigger than it’s actual budget. This twisted vibe and morbid visual style just displays itself as hell on earth. It has a English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc. The depraved build up and intense torture of the fallen stands out for the audio. All of the dialogue is very clean, the lunacy is elevated, and the music has a big boost to it. The only extras are a “Trailer” for No Tears in Hell and a variety of “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
