Mr. Right Blu Ray Review (Universal)

Mr. Right is a 2015 action romantic comedy directed by Paco Cabezas (Penny Dreadful, Neon Flesh, The Appeared, Rage, Into the Badlands, Wednesday, The Walking Dead universe, and The Umbrella Academy). It was written and executive produced by Max Landis (Masters of Horror, Fear Itself, American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein, Bright, and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency). It had an estimated budget of $8,000,000 and it only grossed $607,595 worldwide at the box office. Hyperactive at the best of times, Martha (played by: Anna Kendrick from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Life After Beth, The Voices, 50/50, End of Watch, and The Accountant) has gone full-on manic since her latest breakup. She consistently babbles, parties like a monster, cooks everything in sight, and she is looking to do something terrible. She accidentally meets Francis (played by: Sam Rockwell from Jerry and Tom, Safe Men, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Galaxy Quest, Seven Psychopaths, Iron Man 2, and The Green Mile) and it turns into something interesting between the strangers. They might a perfect match because she’s bananas and he’s a little crazy. He’s a professional assassin that has changed his ways due to his morals. He only kills bad people. Martha realizes that he wasn’t joking about his dangerous job and their relationship gets complicated. He is being tracked by a former associate Hopper (played by: Tim Roth from The Hateful Eight, Pulp Fiction, Planet of the Apes, Twin Peaks, Hoodlum, The Incredible Hulk, and Reservoir Dogs). Can this new couple survive all of this chaos as they just starting to get to know each other???? Mr. Right flopped at the box office when it was originally released but it’s one of the better romantic comedies. It does something completely different with the sub-genre and it adds some violence to the mix. The script has action, crime, suspense, drama, romance, and comedy all mixed in together. It focuses on a girl that has been dealing with some bad luck lately. She meets a strange guy and they end up having a strong connection after their weird introduction. Anna Kendrick as Martha is her usual quirky self. It’s the perfect role for the actress. She has excellent timing when it comes to comedy. She just keeps getting into bad scenarios and it’s a joy to experience. Sam Rockwell literally kills it as the deadly Francis. He’s a contract killer that uses his morals to rid the evil of the world. He used to murder anyone for money but now he only takes out bad guys. Rockwell is one of the best actors around and this is one of my favorite characters from him. He’s super awkward and he is always paranoid due to his shady past. These two have really good chemistry together and it really drives Mr. Nice because the audience never knows what’s going to happen next. Veteran actor Tim Roth as Hopper is a fantastic villain in this. He’s the master of disguise and he’s also being hunted by others because of his previous work. He will do whatever it takes to eliminate Francis. Rapper/Producer Rza gives one of his best performances here as Shotgun Steve. He’s an upcoming assassin that’s trying to sharpen his violent craft. The rest of the supporting cast includes James Ransone (IT: Chapter Two), Anson Mount (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Michael Eklund (Arrow), Katie Nehra (Half Nelson), Jaiden Kaine (Luke Cage), Luis Da Silva Jr. (Fast franchise), Elena Sanchez (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire), Garrett Kruithof (The Purge), Garrett Kruithof (Your Honor), Christopher Matthew Cook (2 Guns), Wendy McColm (The Office), and Ross Gallo (The Call). Mr. Right is a breath of fresh air. This dark comedy provides plenty of laughs and action. It’s very unpredictable, you never know what’s going to happen next with this. It’s an adrenaline rush with some silly situations. It’s kinda been forgotten after all these years. Hopefully, it keeps finding a new audience through home video and television. It’s highly entertaining and so much fun with some top notch replay value. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Universal Pictures! This 1080p (2.39:1) looks great on home video. It’s still the same restoration as the original 2016 disc. Luckily, that one looked nice for an earlier HD release. Mr. Right has attention grabbing cinematography, production design, and locations for it’s visuals. I would love to see this get a 4K someday but it’s probably doubtful since it didn’t perform well at the box office originally. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track here. It’s packed with action, violence, and ridiculous moments that stand out when it comes to the audio. The dialogue is crisp, the chaos is elevated, and the music has killer boost to it. It has English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles. It has the little over a minute “A Sweet Couple”. Lead actress Anna Kendrick chats about the concept, story, and characters in this quick promotional video. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
