Mile 22 Blu Ray Review (Universal)
Mile 22 is a 2018 action film directed by Peter Berg (Very Bad Things, The Rundown, The Kingdom, Lone Survivor, & Deepwater Horizon). It’s the 4th collaboration between director Peter Berg & lead actor Mark Wahlberg, both also produced the feature. The budget was $35 million & it grossed $66.3 million at the box office worldwide. A web series connected to the film called The Kiev Exchange is in development & future sequels are planned. CIA agent & former U.S. Marine war veteran James Silva (played by: Mark Wahlberg from The Departed, Boogie Nights, The Big Hit, & The Yards) leads a Special Activities Division team code named Overwatch which includes Alice Kerr (played by: Lauren Cohan from The Walking Dead, The Boy, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, & Death Race 2), Sam Snow (played by: Ronda Rousey from UFC, WWE, Furious 7, & The Expendables 3), & William Douglas III (played by: Carlo Alban from Prison Break, Live Free or Die, 21 Grams, & OZ) to raid a safe house.
Under the supervision of James Bishop (played by: John Malkovich from Con Air, Empire of the Sun, Of Mice and Men, & Shadow of the Vampire) & his team, they are supplied with critical information. The mission ends up disastrous & the results are bad! 16 months later, Alice has an asset Li Noor (played by: Iko Uwais from The Raid 1/2, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Beyond Skyline, & Man of Tai Chi) that has information that could stop chaos & destruction happening all over the world. He has dangerous people like intelligence agent Axel (played by: Sam Medina from Kickboxer: Vengeance/Retaliation, Venom, Olympus Has Fallen, & From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) that are trying to get him back in their custody & they want to prevent him from revealing all the secrets that he knows. In a world where no one can be trusted, these skilled individuals must find a way to get what they need without everything failing apart & their witness getting into the wrong hands!!!!
Mile 22 is a non stop & action packed thrill ride until the very end! Lead actor Mark Wahlberg & director Peter Berg have great chemistry together. This is Wahlberg’s type of film so it’s one of his better performances in recent years. He has a real solid supporting cast that includes the legendary John Malkovich & the beautiful Lauren Cohan. Berg has done several productions like this so his execution was on point here. It doesn’t have the best story or plot points at times but it’s a very entertaining & fun movie to watch. It also it gets very dark which I really enjoyed, it didn’t hold back on the violence. It had some nice twist & turns to keep you on toes. If you are looking turn off your brain for awhile & just enjoy a popcorn flick, I RECOMMEND this for you!!!!
Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Universal! This 1080p (2.40:1) transfer looks great on blu ray. The colors really pop out here due to the skillful cinematography & it has several amazing locations. The English: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 track is very explosive! It sounds awesome in my home system, this film is action packed so it’s a very fun experience & it has a nice boost to it. It also has English SDH & Spanish subtitles. Both picture & sound are top notch on this release!!!!
