Max Cloud (aKa The Intergalactic Adventures of Max Cloud) is a 2020 science fiction action film co-written, produced, and directed by Martin Owen (L.A. Slasher, Let’s Be Evil, Killers Anonymous, and Twist). It was co-written by actress Sally Collett (Bounce). It was produced by Scott Adkins (Accident Man, Savage Dog, The Debt Collector 1/2, and El Gringo) and Philippe Martinez (Harsh Times, General Commander, Game of Death, Wake of Death, The Flock, G-Loc, and Van Wilder 2). When teen gamer Sarah (played by: Isabelle Allen from Killers Anonymous, Safe, and Hetty Feather) finds an “easter egg” and accidentally opens a portal into her favorite side-scroller.
She becomes trapped in a notorious intergalactic prison as the character Jake (played by: Elliot James Langridge from Killers Anonymous, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Beautiful Devils), she’s stuck inside the home to the galaxy’s most dangerous villains which includes Revengor (played by: John Hannah from The Mummy franchise, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Hurricane, and Spartacus), Shee (played by: Lashana Lynch from Captain Marvel and Bulletproof), and Musculor (played by: Martyn Ford from The Marine 6, Final Score, Boyka: Undisputed, and Kingsman: The Golden Circle). She gets help from hero Max Cloud (played by: Scott Adkins from The Expendables 2, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Doctor Strange, The Bourne Ultimatum, Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, and Undisputed franchise), outsider Brock Donnelly (played by: Tommy Flanagan from Sons of Anarchy, Smokin’ Aces 1/2, Westworld, Killers Anonymous, Gladiator, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), and Rexy (played by: Sally Collett from Killers Anonymous and Twist). To escape this crazy world, she must finish the game with a little help from her not-so-savvy friend Cowboy (played by: Franz Drameh from DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, The Flash, Edge of Tomorrow, The Gentlemen, and Attack the Block) on the outside…or remain a 16-bit character forever!!!!
Max Cloud is kinda a mix between Jumanji, Last Action Hero, and Gamer. If this was made in the 80’s or early 90’s, it would have been major film and it probably would have starred one of the action icons at the time. Max Cloud has a nice balance of action, science fiction, and comedy. Lots of wacky characters in a cool atmosphere. I’ve never seen action superstar Scott Adkins like this before. He was hilarious as the space hero Max Cloud. This is definitely a different role for the direct to video star. Don’t get too worried, Adkins is still a bad ass in this and he has all kinds of fight scenes here. Veteran character actor John Hannah who usually plays a nice guy pulls off this over the top villain that wants to take over the world.
Revengor is very random and unintentionally hilarious here. Lashana Lynch and Martyn Ford are just straight up evil baddies here, they kinda help balance out their silly leader. Franz Drameh was really good as the geek trying to save his crush at any cost with very little skills. Tommy Flanagan stole the show here as the mysterious anti-hero that pops up between all this chaos. The special and visual fx were very impressive and they catered to this type of production with the heavy video game influence to it. If you are a gamer, you will geek out during the fight scenes. This one doesn’t really take it’s self serious at all and that really works to it’s advantage because it’s just a fun and entertaining feature. I am a big Adkins fan but I wasn’t really expecting much here but it was way better than I thought it would be. RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p(2.39:1) transfer is one of the best looking ones from Well Go so far. The production design and the colorful cinematography really shine here.. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on the disc. The audio for this release has a nice boost to it especially during the action. All of the dialogue is crystal clear and the music is elevated on these tracks. It has English SDH subtitles. It doesn’t have any extras on it besides “Trailers” for Well GO related home video releases. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
