Lorne is a 2026 documentary film co-written, produced, and directed by Morgan Neville (Won’t You Be My Neighbor?, Breakdown: 1975, Man on the Run, Piece by Piece, The Saint of Second Chances, This Is Not a House, Brian Wilson: A Beach Boy’s Tale, Johnny Cash’s America, and Keith Richards: Under the Influence). It was co-written by Alan Lowe (Breakdown: 1975, Good People, and Mr. November) and Jake Hostetter (The Beach Boys, Little Richard: I Am Everything, and Mickey: The Story of a Mouse). It was produced by Lauren Belfer (Thank You Very Much, Breakdown: 1975, Shadowland, Wrestle, After Louie, and Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese). It grossed $449,135 worldwide during it’s limited theatrical run. This is an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes glimpse at the mysterious Lorne Michaels. He’s the creative mind who built Saturday Night Live, shaping television and culture for generations. The inside look features exclusive footage and archival treasures that’s never been experienced before. It has candid interviews with the SNL’s most iconic collaborators including Tina Fey, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Chevy Chase, Conan O’Brien, Chris Rock, Steve Martin, Alec Baldwin, and many more!!!! Lorne is a rare glimpse into a man who changed television and comedy forever. Saturday Night Live has out lasted almost everything over the years and it’s still going strong. It shows the origins of the sharp Canadian Lorne Michaels. He was always a fascinating writer. He actually performed his material back in the The Hart and Lorne Terrific Hour in 1970. He produced several Lil Tomlin stand up specials before he got his big break with Saturday Night Live. This covers the ground breaking first season of the sketch TV show. It had a fantastic run at first and it created some of the biggest comedy stars of all time. Then it had it’s issues and Lorne Michaels stepped away from his own production for a few years. SNL just kept getting worse and worse without him so when he returned, it got that same magic back with it’s no hesitation humor approach on pop culture. They go into Michaels producing movies and some of them were based of his popular characters from SNL. Hollywood was pretty unpredictable. He had some success and others failed miserably. They go over him giving television another serious run with the popular 30 Rock. Lorne Michaels is responsible for the Wayne’s World franchise, Tommy Boy, ¡Three Amigos!, Coneheads, Black Sheep, A Night at the Roxbury, Superstar, The Ladies Man, Mean Girls, MacGruber, and others. Lorne has additional conversations with Colin Jost, Michael Che, John Mulaney, Kenan Thompson, Jimmy Fallon, Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey, Martin Short, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Andy Samberg, Kristen Wiig, Seth Meyers, Kate McKinnon, Emma Stone, Lily Tomlin, Jake Gyllenhaal, Candice Bergen, Laraine Newman, and many more besides the names that I already mentioned above. This documentary even gives a rare look into the scheduling, pitch week, and prepping of shows. It takes the audience behind the scenes with Timothée Chalamet and Ayo Edebiri. It also has archive footage that includes John Belushi, Gilda Radner, Chris Farley, Will Ferrell, Phil Hartman, Norm MacDonald, George Carlin, and some of the biggest names around. It’s packed with all kinds of talent and familiar faces. Lorne Michaels rarely appears anywhere so this makes this feature even more interesting because he’s all over it and he shares stuff that he’s never talked about before. It’s an honest, hilarious, and entertaining story about a man that prefers to be in the shadows despite all of the legendary things that he’s achieved during his impressive career. He lets the entire general public into his very private life and world for this. Morgan Neville is one of the best when it comes to documentaries and this is no different. It covers almost everything that you would want to know about this brilliant comedy legend, RECOMMENDED!!!! This discuss this high definition presentation from Focus Features and Universal Pictures! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks excellent for it’s Blu Ray debut on home video. Lorne has a mix of new and archive footage that blends perfectly together. Sometimes documentaries like this suffer from the quality differences when they combine material like this but that’s not the case here. It has a few options when it comes to audio which includes English: Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and English: DVD 2.0 tracks on the disc. All of the interviews are crisp, the humor is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH, Spanish, and French subtitles. Unfortunately, this doesn’t have any bonus material on it. This is a must own for Saturday Night Live and comedy fans. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
