Little Corey Gorey Blu Ray Review (SRS Cinema)

Little Corey Gorey is a 1993 horror comedy film written, edited, produced, and directed by Bill Morroni (Sabeen, Safe House, Roll Call, The Condo, and Ol’ School). Divine was originally casted as the stepmother but passed away before the production started. It was shot on one weekend each month for a year on a 16MM Bolex. It was filmed in 1989 but it sat on the shelves unreleased for a few years. The budget was $15,000. High School student Corey Gorey (played by: Todd Fortune from Quiet Fire and Another World) unfortunately knows the true meaning of Murphy’s Law: if something could go wrong, it went wrong for the troubled teen. Loaded with work, downtrodden and scarred from daily scrutiny, Corey has nothing to look forward to in my own life after losing his dad. When he and his stepbrother, Biff (played by: Greg Sachs from Wizards of the Demon Sword and Push: The Movie) get into a heated argument over a girl named Jackie (played by: Brenda Pope from Commodity), the end result changes everything forever. Corey is forced to clean up his mess. His luck gets worse and worse plus he has to deal with his abusive stepmom Betty (played by: Pat Gallagher from They Still Call Me Bruce, Vasectomy: A Delicate Matter, and Tangled). When will his sanity finally snap before this stressful situation is over???? Little Corey Gorey is a no budget feature that was released in the 90’s. Bill Morroni kept busy here as the writer, editor, producer, and making his directorial debut. He managed to put together something interesting with barely any help or funding. The script focuses on a bullied teenager that lost his father in a car accident so now he’s trapped with his mean spirited step family that doesn’t want him around. They make him do everything around the house and they continue to steal from him. He gets a crush but he’s treated badly and his stepbrother hooks up with her. Corey just loses control and it sets off a wild chain of cursed events. Newcomer Todd Fortune gets the lead role as the unlucky Corey Gorey. He doesn’t fit in with anyone and he tries too hard which gives him even more issues. He is disfigured from his traumatic past. He has a few brutal accidents before he finally loses his sanity. Greg Sachs, Pat Gallagher, and Brenda Pope all achieve at their goal at being easy to hate. They keep pushing this kid to the edge and they never stop being awful. Little Corey Gorey is full of unlikable people so it has the audience rooting for their bloody demise. Honestly, you feel bad for Corey for some of this but he even becomes somewhat of a villain despite of everything that happens to him. Edenia Scudder as Yolanda Washington is the only good person in this wacky slasher. She is the one person who likes Corey for who he actually is but he treats her like shit like others do to him so it’s really ironic. The rest of the supporting cast includes Sabino Villa Lobos (American Me), Matthew Michael Ross (Saved by the Bell), Kristin Caruso (Gilmore Girls), William Linehan (Saved by the Bell: The New Class), Douglas M. Colescott (Ride Me), Jane Waters (Taxi Girls 3: Killer on the Loose), Michelle Goetsch (Uncaged), Heather Harding, Michelle Ravelo, Donna Herman, Bernice Smiley, Carolyn Gill, Larry John, and John B. Tomlinson. More than half of the actors didn’t have any experience and they only ended up doing this. The acting is over the top and all over the place but it works for something like this. Little Corey Gorey had a great subplot about an escaped mass murderer Ricardo Bruno but they completely wasted it and it didn’t go anywhere. I think 2 killers at the same time would have made this even better. Little Corey Gorey lives up to it’s name for the few brutal kills in it. The special fx are pretty good for what they had to work with. It’s goes for more of use your imagination rather showing the full murder kinda style. It still have plenty of blood, dismembered bodies, dangerous tools, and mayhem. I would consider this a slasher but it’s definitely borderline. Little Corey Gorey doesn’t go far non stop slaughter, it paces it all out. It gives more spotlight to the dark comedy and built up drama. It has a fun heavy metal soundtrack that gives it an adrenaline shot when needed. It stays entertaining and independent horror fanatics will appreciate it. It knows it’s cheesy but it fully embraces it. Turn off your brain and just enjoy the dysfunctional family. I’d revisit this again in the future, RECOMMENDED!!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from SRS Cinema! This 1080p (1.33:1) uncensored transfer is from a brand new restoration from the original camera negative. It’s completely uncut for the very first time since the VHS days. Little Corey Gorey looks a little better than it’s competition at the time especially with similar budgets. They took great care of the original source material to pull this off. It has an English: Dolby Digital 2.0 track on the disc. The audio has a few rough moments but overall it’s better than expected. The hard rock soundtrack stands out the most when it comes to this department. All of the dialogue is solid, the disaster is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with Bill Morroni. This is packed so much inside information and personal stories. Lots of the same stuff is discussed in the additional extras for this home video release. He’s very blunt about his experience making this lower budget horror comedy. You will learn everything you were ever curious about it when it comes to this. It has the little over 77 minute “Interview with Director” with Bill Morroni. It’s a full length conversation. He chats about the original title and how he came up with Little Corey Gorey. He goes over casting and how he put it all together. The original Biff shot a few scenes but he died early during the production so he had to be replaced. He gives some updates about where they are how. He jokes about the lead cutting his hair so it changes a little bit in the movie. This is a quality companion piece with the commentary. It has detailed stories about it all. Troma was going to distribute this when Divine agreed to do it before dying. He is not a fan of them and he doesn’t hold back here. It has the little over 21 minute “Interview with Set Mom”. Director Bill Morroni has a conversation with his wife Elaine. She appears off camera for this. They go over the production history of the horror comedy. They have financial backing when cult star Devine was attached to the project. When Devine passed away, they lost all their funding for the production. They chat about the cast and crew worked basically for nothing on Little Corey Gorey. They bring up that it didn’t make any money and they were ripped off by a distributor. There’s lots of information in this. It has the “Trailer” for Little Corey Gorey. It has a big variety of SRS Cinema related “Trailers”. I think it’s great that this little known horror comedy got a pro pressed wide home video release. It’s worth checking out sometime. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
