Kryptic Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

Kryptic is a 2024 body horror film directed by Kourtney Roy (Morning, Vegas and Slice of Heaven). It was written by Paul Bromley (Do Not Harm and Ouija). It was produced by Josh Huculiak (Dead Shack, The Lost Daughter, Boy From Nowhere, Violent, and Ash) and Sophie Venner (Anchor and Hope, Undergods, Buried Land, and Room 8). Sometimes when you go hunting for a monster, the monster finds you first. Kay Hall (played by: Chloe Pirrie from Shell, Burn Burn Burn, Emma, Dept. Q, Carnival Row, The Crown, Kindred, and Hanna) goes on a desperate search for a missing cryptzoologist leads to a riveting cosmic quest for her own real identity. A horror unlike any other takes over as she digs deeper into it!!!! Kryptic is a mix between early Cronenberg and Lovecraft. It’s ending kinda reminded me a little bit of 2009’s Triangle. The script is very complicated and it leaves a lot to the imagination. This is an excellent directorial debut from Kourtney Roy after only doing a few short films. Lead actress Chloe Pirrie as Kay Hall and Barb Valentine is the only one I recognized from previous projects. She really carried Kryptic with her brave and bold performance. This definitely is a role that most women would probably not to do considering all it deals with and it’s a risky choice. It makes me appreciate Chloe Pirrie even more after seeing this. I think it actually helped that the rest of the cast weren’t familiar and it gave all of their characters a more natural feel to them. The supporting cast includes Jeff Gladstone (The Twilight Zone), Jason Deline (Arrow), Ali Rusu-Tahir (Passiflora), Kamantha Naidoo (iZombie), Jenna Hill (Charmed), Pam Kearns (Totally Killer), Jane Stanton (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers), Sarah Hayward (Hellraiser: Hellseeker), Patti Allan (Supergirl), Christina Lewall (The Good Doctor), Ardy Ramezani (Final Destination: Bloodlines), and Sara J Southey (Batwoman). The visual and special fx are very impressive in Kryptic. It’s one of the true highlights when it comes to all of the madness that takes place. This independent production is so weird but all that bizarre randomness pulls you in. It’s a unique and different take for a few different sub-genres including body horror. Kryptic stays with it’s audience long after it’s finished. It has some nice suspense and tension. It’s more of an visual experience than story but it’s keeps itself interesting. I thought it was much better and something else rather than what’s displayed in it’s actual trailer, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks amazing for it’s blu ray debut. They were creative with main departments because it looks like a much larger production than what it is. It has a few different audio options which includes has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. The audio has it’s moments at times but it’s not really an action packed type of movie. All of the dialogue is crisp, the bizarre atmosphere is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. The only extras on this home video release is a “Trailer” for Kryptic & various Well Go USA related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!
