Kindred Blu Ray Review (Gravitas Ventures)

Kindred is a 2025 horror thriller shot, edited, and directed by Russ De Jong (Sidd and Prime Movers). it was written by John White. It was produced by Todd Slater (Trigger Happy, Trapped Inn, 9 Windows, and Succubus, Big Bear, Killerman, and King of Killers) and Tony Del Rio (Control, Fight Another Day, On the Ropes, and Escalation). Two desperate young criminals Orchid (played by: Deanna Jarvis from Hemlock Grove, Demons Inside Me, Next-Door Nightmare, and Two Deaths of Henry Baker) and Roy (played by: Derick Agyemang from Simulant, Laughing All The Way, Supergirl, and Stay The Night) need a fast and big score. They break into a mansion expecting an easy job but they go into something more dangerous than their planned crime. Will they be able to survive the night after their terrible mistake???? I didn’t realize that they had so many messed up dinner party features in horror until recently. Kindred takes the concept of a few thieves that are looking for a huge payday with one job but it ends up backfiring on the duo. The script has potential but it’s a little slow at times plus the real villains never really get a proper backstory so it stays kinda mysterious when it comes to that. Director Russ De Jong is a non stop working DP and he’s some steady cam for some major productions so visually Kindred looks great. Deanna Jarvis is very impressive as Orchid in Kindred. I’m not very familiar with her but I want to see more after seeing this. She makes it so much more interesting with her presence. Derick Agyemang is really solid as Roy. He’s trying to get them out of this disaster but it’s a struggle. These two have good chemistry together. The rest of the supporting cast includes Tennille Read (SurrealEstate), Russell Sams (The Flock), Kylee Evans (Good Witch), Jonathan Goad (Reign), Cindy Goh (Star Trek: Section 31), Randy Thomas (Vicious Fun), Ish Morris (Killjoys), and Catherine McGregor (Nightmare Alley). Kindred has it’s moments but it doesn’t have a good flow to it at all. You go from being thrilled to bored so many times during it. I was hoping it was going to be a little more violent than what it was. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent low budget film but I’m not sure when I would honestly want to revisit it again. The actors make that screenplay way better than what’s on the paper so it does have it’s qualities. It’s worth checking out at least once. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on the disc.
