Kill Em All 2 DVD Review (Sony Pictures)

Kill Em All 2 is a 2024 direct to video action film directed by Valeri Milev (Bullets of Justice, Code Red, Re-Kill, and Wrong Turn 6). It was written by Jim Agnew (The Capture, Into the Dark, Rage, Game of Death, and Giallo). It was produced by Jean-Claude Van Damme (Darkness of Man, Pound of Flesh, 6 Bullets, Black Water, We Die Young, Assassination Games, Legionnaire, and Inferno). Retired from the C.I.A, Phillip (played by: Jean-Claude Van Damme from the Universal Soldier franchise, Street Fighter, Kill Em All, Black Eagle, Lionheart, Double Impact, Kickboxer franchise, The Expendables 2, Timecop, Bloodsport, and Hard Target) is now just trying to enjoy a normal civilian life with his daughter Vanessa (played by: Jacqueline Fernandez from Aladin, Attack, and Mrs. Serial Killer). Everything changes once he gets tracked down by terrorist Vlad Petrovic (played by: Andrei Lenart from Kingsman: The Secret Service, Canary Black, and Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens). He wants revenge on him for killing his warlord brother. The former C.I.A spy goes to his old friends Holman (played by: Peter Stormare from Kill Em All, Fargo, Constantine, Prison Break, and John Wick: Chapter 2) and Sanders (played by: Maria Conchita Alonso from Kill Em All, The Running Man, Predator 2, Extreme Prejudice, and Colors) for help. Will he able to trust them???? Kill Em All 2 is a direct sequel to 2017’s Kill Em All. It’s one of the few recent direct to video Jean-Claude Van Damme projects popular enough to get a follow up in a long time. It has several characters returning from the original, unfortunately Autumn Reeser doesn’t come back for this one. Kill Em All 2 has a very simple concept and script. It’s basically the aftermath from what happened in the first one. It does have some surprises and twists to it. Jean-Claude Van Damme is back as Phillip. It’s been around 7 years, he’s just trying to connect with his daughter now in Italy. He is forced back into all this chaos again. JCVD has been changing it up lately but he goes back to his roots in this. It has more fighting and action rather than a crime feature. Jacqueline Fernandez as Vanessa is a solid addition to the low budget action franchise. She is a nice balance to Van Damme’s dangerous character. Peter Stormare as Agent Holman has the best performance in Kill Em All 2. He returns from the original and it’s an interesting role for the veteran actor. You never know what he’s going to do here. The rest of the supporting cast includes Maria Conchita Alonso, Andrei Lenart, Talia Asseraf (Kill Em All), Meredith Mickelson (Bunny-Man), Antonino Iuorio (Hudson Hawk), Ana Golja (Degrassi: Next Class), and Nic Van Damme (Darkness of Man). Kill Em All 2 has plenty of violence and fights in it. Old school Van Damme fans will appreciate it. I just wish it had a better main villain because he’s honestly nothing special. Regardless, it’s one of the better newer projects from the action legend but I will say that the first one was much better. It stays entertaining for the most part, it’s a solid sequel for this independent series. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did more films with the Philip character in the future. Just go into with no expectations and turn off your brain for awhile!!!! Let’s discuss this standard definition presentation from Sony Pictures! This 480p (2.39:1) transfer looks excellent on DVD. It has stylish cinematography and the attention grabbing locations really pop out in this. Honestly, I think this sequel deserves better than just a DVD for it’s debut. I’m really shocked that this didn’t get a blu ray release in the states at the same time since Van Damme is still big name for the direct to video market. Kill Em All has gotten a few HD home video releases overseas so it’s still possible that it might get one here someday. It has an English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track. The audio is amped up on this DVD but that’s a not big surprise considering what type of film it is. All of the dialogue is very clean, the action is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH, English, French, and Spanish subtitles. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on this disc. This is a professionally made on demand DVD-R home video release.
