It Lives Inside Blu Ray Review (Decal Releasing)

It Lives Inside is a 2023 supernatural horror film written and directed by Bishal Dutta (Triads, Lenora, Inferno, and Life in Color). it was co-written by Ashish Mehta (Hush Hush). It was produced by Jeff Deutchman (Infinity Pool, Crimes of the Future, and Spencer). It grossed $7.2 million at the box office during it’s limited theatrical run!!!!

Samidha (played by: Megan Suri from Never Have I Ever, Atypical, Missing, and Valentine’s Day) is an American high school student of East Indian origin who has been assimilating into western society. While her mother Poorna (played by: Neeru Bajwa from Snowman, Criminal, Prince, and Jeet) tries to make sure that Sam continue to follow traditions and pay respect to her heritage. Her father Inesh (played by: Vik Sahay from Chuck, Captain Marvel, Bar Fight, America Reunion, and Stir of Echoes: The Homecoming) is not as strict towards her. At school, Sam tries to reject her culture to fit in with her popular friends. She starts a romance with her classmate Russ (played by: Gage Marsh from Big Sky, You Me Her, and Batwoman). In exchange for all these changes, she has grown apart from her former best friend and fellow Indian student, Tamira (played by: Mohana Krishnan from Spinner and I Am Frankie) is now a social outcast for acting withdrawn and carrying a strange glass jar. This concerns their teacher Joyce (played by: Betty Gabriel from Upgrade, Get Out, Jack Ryan, Westworld, and The Purge: Election Year) but Sam believes Tamira is fine. At night, Tamira feeds the jar raw meat but something inside the jar starts damaging it. The next day at school, Tamira privately approaches Sam for help. She claims that a supernatural entity from a story they were told as children actually lives in the jar she carries around and it has been terrorizing her. Sam, embarrassed and frustrated by Tamira, smashes the jar open, causing Tamira to have a panic attack. When Sam leaves to get help, Tamira is attacked by an invisible entity and goes missing. Sam feels guilty and begins to fear there is something evil is going on. She finds a notebook Tamira had in her possession that includes strange Sanskrit writings. Sam investigates this bizarre situation. As time goes on, she learns of the past and dark powers of this monster. Can she save herself from this dangerous outcome???? It Lives Inside had a very small theatrical run and I was lucky enough to check it out when it was here. My expectations were low but this one really surprised me. I’ve only seen a handful of Indian horror features over the years but this is definitely one of the best when it comes to that sub-genre. The script had a nice build up with some solid character development. It Lives Inside is loaded with suspense towards the finale and it has so much potential for a future horror franchise. It kinda had a slow burn vibe but it really picked up in the 2nd half. I enjoyed the myth and the way they kept the monster hidden for the most part in this. Bishal Dutta shines in his directorial debut here. Megan Suri carries this small horror feature with her impressive lead performance. It has a solid supporting cast that includes Vik Sahay, Mohana Krishnan, Betty Gabriel, Gage Marsh, and Neeru Bajwa. It Lives Inside flew under the radar when it comes to the horror community and it definitely deserves more attention. RECOMMENDED!!!!Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Decal Releasing! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks fantastic in HD. It Lives Inside is very stylish, slick cinematography, excellent production design, and quality fx especially for it’s lower budget. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 on the disc. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH and Spanish subtitles. Unfortunately, this home video release has no extras on it. This is a BD-R release but it still looks very professional. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
