I Know What You Did Last Summer: The Complete Series Blu Ray Review (Sony Pictures)

I Know What You Did Last Summer is a 2021 horror television series co-written, executive produced, and ran by Sara Goodman (Cruel Intentions, Preacher, Outsiders, Rake, and Gossip Girl). It was directed by Logan Kibens (Mayfair Witches, American Horror Stories, The Thing About Pam, and Snowfall), Craig William Macneill (Westworld, The Terror, Them, Channel Zero, The Boy, and Castle Rock), and Ben Semanoff (Yellowjackets, Tulsa King, Ozark, and Power franchise). It follows 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, 1998’s I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, 2006’s I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, and it’s followed by 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer. In a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers which includes Lennon (played by: Madison Iseman from the Jumanji franchise, The Rainmaker, and Annabelle Comes Home), Margot (played by: Brianne Tju from Scream: The TV Series, Light as a Feather, and 47 Meters Down: Uncaged), Dylan (played by: Zeke Goodman from Cruel Intentions, Rent Free, and Dragonfly), Riley (played by: Ashley Moore from Popstar, Baywatch, and Festival of the Living Dead), and Johnny (played by: Sebastian Amoruso from Avatar: The Last Airbender, Solve, and The Incredible Edible) are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night!!!! They will literally turn everything into a television project these days because streaming is becoming more popular than actual cinema. Sony took their known horror franchise and they created something for Amazon Prime. I Know What You Did Last Summer still has all of the similar situations as it’s original source material but it has a refreshing different vibe compared to the film adaptations from show runner Sara Goodman. I personally think having 8 episodes was a little too much for this TV universe and it kinda slowed it down a little bit. It took longer to develop but it definitely rewarded the viewer for it’s patience. A huge mistake is made by a group of friends and they are forced to keep a dangerous secret that keeps haunting them. Someone is tracking them down one by one and they are making them pay for their sins. Lead actress Madison Iseman shines as Lennon keeps losing her friends over this tragedy that they buried from the community. She is desperately trying to find out who’s behind of this mysterious destruction. She carefully watches her friends as it all goes down. She’s already dealing with her own troubled past. She has her own secret besides the obvious night of regret. Lead actor Zeke Goodman is great as Dylan, he’s the one that continues to be suspected for this killing spree. He’s a just normal kid but something doesn’t seem right with him. He always survives but he’s always at the wrong place at the right time. As trust gets better within his group, there’s still suspicion with this close community. It adds to the paranoia. Actress Brianne Tju is better than expected as the always reliable Margot. She is friends with all of them and she’s consistently there if you need her. She obsessed with social media and she’s addicted of being an influencer but it’s not safe anymore. She is not afraid to investigate this tension filled environment. The rest of the cast includes Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso, Bill Heck (The Old Man), Fiona Rene (Tracker), Cassie Beck (Joe Bell), Brooke Bloom (All the Boys Love Mandy Lane), Sonya Balmores (Inhumans), Danielle Delaunay (Baywatch: Panic at Malibu Pier), Chrissie Fit (Pitch Perfect franchise), Spencer Sutherland (Afterlife of the Party), Victoria Schmidt (Fallout), Jason Lee Hoy (Midway), Sterling Sulieman (Station 19), Maggie Lacey (American Animals), Kekoa Kekumano (Aquaman), Keola Simpson (Magnum P.I.), Eddie Kaulukukui (Winners), Dann Seki (Savage Beach), Loretta Ables Sayre (Hawaii Five-0), and Eric William Morris (Blue Bloods). I Know What You Did Last Summer is full of unlikable or questionable characters. It leaves it open to any of them being the possible psychopath that’s taking them out one by one in a variety of brutal ways. That’s one of the best things about this I Know What You Did Last Summer TV adaptation, it’s way more gruesome than I thought it would be. The nasty gore and deaths pushed it for being more mainstream. It had a tension filled atmosphere with plenty of suspense and thrills especially during it’s wild finale with some interesting twists. I did appreciate that it felt like no matter how big the character was, everyone was expendable. It actually surprised me on a few things. It got cancelled but I feel like it wasn’t going to be something that kept on for a long time considering it’s concept. It’s so much better than its current reputation. I kept my expectations low but it definitely delivered. It’s a quality addition to this horror universe. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Sony Pictures! These 1080p (2.00:1) transfers on all 8 episodes look stunning on this Blu Ray disc. It’s great to see a streaming series get a physical media home video release. I Know What You Did Last Summer has colorful cinematography, exotic production design, beautiful locations, and bloody special fx for their sharper visuals. It has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks for “It’s Thursday”, “It’s Not Just for Dog Shit”, “A Gorilla Head Will Not Do”, “Hot Shrimp Salad”, “Mukbang”, “Least You Had a Spare”, “If Only Dogs Could Talk”, and “Your Next Life Could Be So Much Happier” on a 3 disc set. This slasher show keeps the terrifying suspense and graphic thrills which is the main source for it’s sound here. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the murder is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English and English SDH subtitles.
