I Can See You Blu Ray Review (Glass Eye Pix)

I Can See You is a 2008 horror thriller film written, produced, sound designed, visual fx, additional music, and directed by Graham Reznick (The Viewer, Deadwax, Chilling Visions: 5 States of Fear, and Stake Land: Origins). It was executive produced by Larry Fessenden (Blackout, Sisters, The Innkeepers, Satan Hates You, Trigger Man, The Viewer, Automatons, The Last Winter, Habit, The Roost, Birth of the Living Dead, I Sell the Dead, The House of the Devil, Late Phases, Depraved, The Ranger, Psychopaths, Darling, Bitter Feast, No Telling, and Stake Land franchise). Three aspiring ad-men which includes Richards (played by: Benjamin Dickinson from First Winter, Creative Control, and Thanksgiving), Doug (played by: Duncan Skiles from Puppet Rapist), and Kimble (played by: Christopher Ford from Our RoboCop Remake, Our Footloose Remake, and Puppet Rapist) take a weekend in the wilderness, brainstorming for their first assignment.to overhaul the image of a once popular cleaning product Claractix. While in the woods, a girlfriend’s mysterious disappearance sparks a harrowing descent into unreality. Personalities contort into extremes and visits are made by a specter from Claractix campaigns of the past as the film careens towards it’s startling climax!!!! Director Graham Reznick is one of the best sound designers in the business. He has worked on so many great productions over the years which includes X, In a Valley of Violence, Clown, The Sacrament, V/H/S, The Innkeepers, Stake Land, The House of the Devil, I Sell the Dead, and The ABCs of Death. He had 6 different jobs on this shoot so he handled himself well despite doing so much here. It kinda gives off a found footage vibe towards the start of it. It’s listed and considered a thriller but it’s more of a mystery drama for the most part. The concept is actually pretty original and it’s one of the best things about it but it’s not executed, it’s more of a tease than anything. The casting for I Can See You is really unique because it’s full of directors like Benjamin Dickinson (Super Sleuths), Duncan Skiles (The Clovehitch Killer), Larry Fessenden (Wendigo), Jon Watts (Spider-Man franchise), Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts), Neal Jonas (Elise), and Mick Lauer (Yu-Gi-Oh! Heart of My Cards). So they all know exactly what to do in front of the camera. The other performers from this includes Christopher Ford, Olivia Villanti (Cain’s Mark), and Heather Robb (The Sacrament). I Can See You feels isolated and it’s in a small setting so that helps with it’s mysterious atmosphere. It doesn’t really go anywhere until the last 12 minutes to be honest. I really wish more of this resembled it’s crazy finale. I Can See You is well shot, put together nicely, and the quality is all over the place for every production department involved. I Can See You is a little bit of a chore to get through. It’s very slow and not much happens until the end to be real. I understand the need for development, build up, and payoff but it needed more to it. I Can See You is creepy and it has a cool style to it. It kept feeling like more was around the corner but it never happened. Maybe I was just expecting something else but I wasn’t really feeling it. It’s a quality effort and I am sure that it has it’s own audience so I completely respect what was done in I Can See You!!!! It has stylish cinematography, excellent production design, and an interesting main location for it’s sharp visuals. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks on the disc. The audio shines the most for it’s score. All of the dialogue is very clean, the drama is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has a brand new exclusive “Audio Commentary” with Graham Reznick and Peter Phok moderated by Simon Adams. It has the archive “Audio Commentary” with Graham Reznick, Benjamin Dickinson, Duncan Skiles, Christopher Ford, and Josh Hartsoe. It has the archive little over 31 minute “Ti West interviews Graham Reznick” from a 2009 podcast. This conversation is audio only. They chat about doing a double feature of Trigger Man and I Can See You as a complete film with both segments being shorter than what they become. They go over it’s development. They talk about what motivated it’s idea. It has some of the same stuff asd the commentaries but there’s a good amount of newer things brought up in this. It has the almost 40 minute “I Can See You, A Closer Look”. It’s a behind the scenes featurette from producer Larry Fessenden. It has a variety of rare footage from the independent production. It has interviews with the cast and crew from it. It has 12 minutes of 5 “Deleted Scenes and Outtakes” that extended moments from its small cast and it’s original ending. It has the original “Trailer” for I Can See You from 2008. It has the little over 15 minute 2009 short film “The Viewer” directed by Graham Reznick. It’s available in Stereoscopic 3-D, Anaglyph 3-D, and 2-D. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 Mono and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 on here. The Viewer takes you through the eyes of a suspected killer. It’s a very original experience especially for for a sci-fi short. I really liked this one, it was really good. It’s definitely worth checking out if you get the opportunity. The cast includes Lindsay Burdge (XX), Lena Dunham (American Horror Story), and Mick Lauer (Satan Hates You). It has an archive “Audio Commentary” with Graham Reznick, Gordon Arkenberg, and Neal Jones. They go over the development and motivation for it. 3-D was popular at the time so they took advantage of it. It had a similar tone as I Can See You. William Castle was an inspiration, they considered doing gimmicks with it. They go over some issues that they had. Lots of stuff is discussed here for it’s smaller running time. It has the original “Stereoscopic Trailer” from 2009. It has the Offerings Short Films Series. It has the little over 3 minute “Twelve Days of Black Mass” from 2008, the little over 3 minute “The Trick is the Treat” featuring Horror Icon Angus Scrimm (Phantasm franchise, Automatons, and Satan Hates You) from 2013, the little over 3 minute “SM Claus” from 2018, and the little over 3 minute “Highland Steel” from 2008. The Trick is the Treat was the best out of this batch. These 4 shorts were all directed by Graham Reznick. The visual style, atmosphere, and direction for these kinda reminded me of old school Nine Inch Nails music videos. It comes with a high quality slipcover, reversible artwork for The Viewer, a pair of Glass Eye Pix 3-D glasses, and 28 page booklet.
