Honest Thief Blu Ray Review (Universal)

Honest Thief is a 2020 action-thriller film co-written, produced, & directed by Mark Williams (A Family Man). It was co-written by Steve Allrich (Blind Date, The Timber, Bad Karma, & The Canyon). It was produced by Craig Chapman (Chef, Machine Gun Preacher, Cabin Fever, & The War with Grandpa), Myles Nestel (Machete, Man Down, 13 , & Grand Piano), & 23 others. It grossed $29.3 million at the box office. Sneaking around Boston for years, Tom Dolan (played by: Liam Neeson from Cold Pursuit, The Commuter, Run All Night, & Taken franchise) has become a master thief that earned him the nickname the “In-and-Out Bandit” for his slick ways when it comes to stealing large amounts of money. He turns over a new leaf when he meets & falls in love with Annie Wilkins (played by: Kate Walsh from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer Part 2, Legion, Grey’s Anatomy, & Private Practice), a psychology graduate student working at a storage unit facility. A year into their relationship, Tom attempts to turn himself in to the FBI in exchange for a short sentence so he can put his criminal past behind him. FBI Agent Sam Baker (played by: Robert Patrick from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Die Hard 2, From Dusk Till Dawn 2, & Double Dragon) brushes him off, having received several false confessions in the past. He sends subordinates John Nivens (played by: Jai Courtney from Suicide Squad, Terminator Genisys, A Good Day to Die Hard, & Semper Fi) & Ramon Hall (played by: Anthony Ramos from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Monsters and Men, A Star Is Born, & Hamilton) to interview him. Tom directs them to the storage unit where his money is hidden, but Nivens convinces Hall to steal the money & keep it for themselves. Nivens & Hall confront Tom at gunpoint at his hotel but it tuns into a worse situation when someone else shows up unexpected. Agent Sean Meyers (played by: Jeffrey Donovan from Burn Notice, Villains, Sicario 1/2, & Fargo) is determined to the solve the case & get some retribution. Tom wants to keep Annie safe while trying to fight off corrupt & vengeful agents that all after him for very different reasons. Tom just wants to be a normal guy & leave his criminal past behind him, can he pull off one last time????Honest Thief is your typical Liam Neeson action flick for the most part but it has a unique spin to it. It’s PG-13 unlike most of his other features so it’s not as crazy as you have grown to expect from the bad ass known as Liam Neeson. I’ve said this before but I’ll repeat myself because it’s very true, Liam Neeson is the modern day Charles Bronson. He’s one of my favorite actors & I own everything that he does. It depends on how you look at it, you can watch Honest Thief with your whole family without having to cover any eyes or ears because it’s very clean for the most part but at the same time it still have lots of action in it. It still has violence but it’s a little watered down because it’s PG-13 but it works.It some had some murder & you don’t fuck with Liam Neeson so it’s still worth checking out despite it’s more family friendly rating. Let’s be honest, most action stars are bad actors but Liam Neeson can act so his movies usually stand out from all the others. This one has an interesting concept of a thief falling in love & wanting to be honest when starting his new life. I liked why he robbed people because it wasn’t random or just for greed, he had an actual reason for it. One of the best things about Honest Thief was it’s small but talented supporting cast that included Kate Walsh, Robert Patrick, Jeffrey Donovan, Jai Courtney, & Anthony Ramos. I just want to say that I loved how it flipped some of these roles here because a few of these actors are usually typecast as the complete opposite so that was refreshing to see. Honest Thief was very fun & entertaining, it’s definitely not my favorite Neeson project but it was better than expected, RECOMMENDED!!!!Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Universal! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks great on blu ray. It’s your typical set up for the action superstar but the east coast locations are real nice here. The English: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 & English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks are top notch here. This one really tests out your home set up because it’s loaded with action & it has a killer boost to it. All of the dialogue is very clean & the music is elevated on this. It has English SDH & Spanish subtitles. It doesn’t have any extras on it besides a variety of “Trailers” from Universal. It also has a slipcover, a digital copy, & a DVD copy of the release. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
