Ghost Train Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

Ghost Train (aKa Ga Tử Thần and Goegiyeolcha) is a 2024 horror anthology film directed by Se-Woong Tak (Devil in the Lake, A Stranger Dream, and KBS Drama Special). It was written by Jo Ba-Reun (Ghost Mansion, Gang, One Hundred Grams, Vibration, and Floor). It was produced by Young-min Kim (Exhuma, I, Road Games, The Vanished, Make Your Move, and Tazza: One-Eyed Jack) and Kwon Ji Yong (Ghost Mansion and Exhuma). It grossed $873,815 during it’s limited theatrical run. Da-kyung (played by: Joo Hyun-young from The Story of Park’s Marriage Contract, The Kidnapping Day, Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Ms. Incognito, and Pretty Crazy) becomes desperate to make it as a YouTube content creator, but her failing channel really needs a boost after her numbers keep dropping. Her latest plan is to explore an allegedly haunted Gwanglim train station with a very troubled past. Her interview with the Station Master (played by: Jeon Bae-soo from The Wailing, Alive, Mantis, No Tears for the Dead, The Pirates, Stranger, and A Violent Prosecutor) takes her through a horrifying series of chilling tales that may be more true than she could have ever expected for her dangerous research. She gets curious so she puts herself in the cursed location to resurrect her influencer career. It’s time to take a step onto the infamous Ghost Train!!!! Ghost Train is ironically very similar to 2021’s Ghost Mansion. It’s still a great concept. A once popular influencer will do anything to get back to her previous fame. She’s willing to risk her own life for more views. It’s directed by Se-Woong Tak that was behind the highly entertaining Devil in the Lake so that grabbed my attention a little more to this supernatural horror anthology. I thought all of the short stories were creepy and it kept the suspense going for Ghost Train. My favorite segment was the one with the vending machine. It’s truly unique and it could be easily flipped into a movie on it’s own. It’s a cautionary tale on greed. The plastic surgery one was also interesting when it came to all of other segments before the wild finish. Ghost Train has two main characters basically. Joo Hyun-young as Da-kyung is the horror queen of YouTube. She keeps getting lost in the algorithm and her videos keep getting less and less views. She does some detective work and she tries to bribe the Station Master to learn more about her potential next story. Jeon Bae-soo is the hesitate Station Master. He originally turns down the influencer until she offers him an expensive gift for his information. He caves in to it and he gives her a shocking lesson about her train station. Their chemistry is tense but it’s gets stronger as they spend more time together. Some of the supporting cast includes Choi Bo-min (Gory: A Horror Tale), Kim Ji-in (Extraordinary You), and Kim Woo-kyum (Life on Mars). K-Horror strikes again with a quality supernatural effort. It’s thrilling addition to the classic ghost story with some twists and surprises. It has some nice violence here but it mainly goes for jump scares. It feels like a modern day Twilight Zone but as a full length with an Asian vibe to it. Luckily, it keeps itself entertaining and it doesn’t drag at all. There’s plenty of different subjects to please every horror fan in this one. The suspenseful build up keeps going and it comes together. Ghost Train has a killer ending that ties it all up. I never heard of this until it was announced for home video from Well Go USA. It’s one of the most underrated horror movies of 2024, give it a shot sometime. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks much better than I thought would be for it’s home video debut in the states. The slick cinematography, stylish production design, visual fx, and it’s main location really shines for it’s the sharp creepy visuals. It has an Korean: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and Korean: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. The audio mainly pops for it’s tension and the score. All of the dialogue is very clean, the haunting is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English and English SDH subtitles. It has the “Trailer” for Ghost Train and a variety of Well Go USA related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
