Fungicide Blu Ray Review (Visual Vengeance)

Fungicide is a 2002 horror comedy co-written, produced, edited, shot, composed, and directed by Dave Wascavage (Suburban Sasquatch, Tartarus, Zombies by Design, Malevolent Ascent, and Adventures of the Haunted Hunted). It was co-written and executive produced by Mary Wascavage (Suburban Sasquatch, Tartarus, Adventures of the Haunted Hunted, and Zombies by Design). It had an estimated budget of $140..Deep within a tranquil forest, several strangers which includes Tony Ignitus (played by: Dave Bonavita from Suburban Sasquatch), Jackson P. Jackson (played by: Dave Wascavage from Head Case), and Major Wang (played by: Wes Miller from Suburban Sasquatch) meet at a secluded bed and breakfast. One of these guests happens to be a mad scientist, Silas Purcell (played by: David Weldon from Suburban Sasquatch) uses his vacation to accidentally create an army of killer mushrooms. Now unleashed on the other guests and with the body count quickly piling up, it’s up to the survivors to arm themselves and fight back against these slaughtering shrooms in hopes of stopping them from world domination!!!! Fungicide is one of the worst movies ever made and it makes Suburban Sasquatch look like a masterpiece compared to it. Director Dave Wascavage is definitely one of a kind, there’s no one like him when it comes to stuff like this. Fungicide gives the world killer mushrooms and it embraces it’s ridiculous concept with pride. The script is all about the comedy and it has a blast with it’s spoof mentality. The cast includes multiple familiar faces from Suburban Sasquatch which includes Mary Wascavage, Dave Wascavage, Dave Bonavita, Wes Miller, David Weldon, Loretta Wascavage, Edward Wascavage, and Antoinette Cancelliere. The special and visual fx are awful in Fungicide. The CGI adds to it’s ridiculous atmosphere. Fungicide is just non stop humor and over the top situations. It’s kinda hard to believe this was actually made. You have appreciate what they put together for shocking budget. I’ve spent more than that multiple times in an entire day. Most people should know what to expect from this if they have seen Dave Wascavage’s previous efforts. It never takes itself seriously and it knows exactly what it’s doing here. Fungicide is beyond cheap and it’s beyond incoherent. It’s definitely not for everyone or maybe even most people but it’s very entertaining and unbelievable. This 1080i (1.33:1) unrated transfer is from a director approved SD master from the original tape elements. It looks about what you would expect for not having any budget and do it yourself approach. This SOV Horror comedy has plenty of live action cartoon vibes to it when it comes to the visuals. It has a English Dolby Digital Mono track on the disc. The audio picks up a little for it’s action and chaos. All of the dialogue is very clean, the killer mushroom are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has a brand new exclusive “Audio Commentary” with Dave Wascavage and Mary Wascavage. It has an archive “Audio Commentary” with Dave Wascavage, Mary Wascavage, and David Weldon. It has an additional “Audio Commentary” with Sam Panico and Bill Van Ryn. It has another “Audio Commentary” with Schlock and Awe Films. As you can see, Fungicide is loaded with a variety of different options when it comes to commentaries. They all have their own unique vibes. There’s some new and unknown information plus stories in these. Lots of comedy and making fun of the wacky universe that this is set in. They are nice companion pieces to each other. It has the full “RiffTrax” version of Fungicide featuring Michael J. Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett. This is the real reason to pick this up, it’s my preferred version of this one. It’s hilarious and it makes this even more entertaining. It has the almost 3 minute “Alternate Opening Credits”. It has an almost 2 minute “Deleted Scene”. It has a little over 5 minutes of “Outtakes”. It has the almost 7 minute “Image Gallery”. It has the “Troubled Moon Trailer Reel”. It has the “Fungicide – Producer Trailer”. It has various Visual Vengeance related “Trailers”. It comes with a slipcover, it has 2 different artworks underneath, mini poster, retro sticker sheet, and seeds to grow your own killer mushrooms.
