For Your Consideration Blu Ray Review (Warner Archive Collection)

For Your Consideration is a 2006 comedy co-written and directed by Christopher Guest (The Big Picture, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, Almost Heroes, and Saturday Night Live). It was co-written by actor Eugene Levy (Second City TV, The Last Polka, Schitt’s Creek, Waiting for Guffman, A Mighty Wind, Best in Show, and Maniac Mansion). The budget was $12,000,000 and it grossed $5,925,637 worldwide at the box office. Set in a town where “Oscar ” is the backbone of an industry not know for having a backbone. A group of character actors and the smaller production might get the opportunity of a lifetime that could change everything. Buzz of a potential Oscar nomination sends the cast and crew of the low-budget indie film “Home For Purim” into a wide-eyed frenzy as it gets much more attention than expected from the media. Will these underdogs win it all???? Director Christopher Guest is the king of the mockumentary. His sharp mind is perfect for satire with all his hilarious over the top scenarios. What’s really awesome and creative about Guest behind the camera is that his features are always packed with improv. They have an outline but they can do whatever they want when it comes to dialogue and how their work turns out. Guest is known for using the same crew over and over, it’s a blast to see these same people do something completely different with these ambitious projects. Catherine O’Hara (Home Alone franchise, Beetlejuice franchise, Dick Tracy, and After Hours) as Marilyn Hack is top notch in For Your Consideration. She is a forgotten actress that hears rumors that she might be nominated for the biggest possible award in her profession. Her reality gets a nice boost and she must deal with all this new game from it. This is probably Catherine O’Hara’s most underrated performance so far. Harry Shearer (The Simpsons, This is Spinal Tap, The Truman Show, Godzilla, and Wayne’s World 2) as Victor Allan Miller is hysterical here. He’s one of the last people that you would think get the attention of the academy. He takes advantage of this brand new audience. He’s just living his best life in this. Parker Posey (Clockwatchers, Party Girl, Scream 3, Superman Returns, Blade: Trinity, The Doom Generation, and Suburbia) as Callie Webb is great as the younger actress that’s trying to steal the shine from her veteran co-star. She is at the right place at the right time, she knows exactly what she’s doing in For Your Consideration. Eugene Levy (American Pie franchise, Goon, The Man, Bringing Down the House, Club Paradise, and Down to Earth) as Morley Orfkin shines as the agent that doesn’t really care about his clients until it starts to benefit himself. He tries to act like he’s interested but he doesn’t hide it very well when someone more important needs his services. He is never really himself and he can’t be trusted. The rest of the all star supporting cast includes Ed Begley Jr. (Pineapple Express), Christopher Guest (This is Spinal Tap), John Michael Higgins (Fun with Dick and Jane), Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie franchise), Paul Dooley (Sixteen Candles), John Krasinski (The Office), Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy), Richard Kind (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Bob Balaban (The Mexican), Michael McKean (Clue), Fred Willard (Anchorman), Jane Lynch (The 40-Year-Old Virgin), Mary McCormack (In Plain Sight), Ricky Gervais (The Office), Larry Miller (The Nutty Professor), Claire Forlani (Mallrats), and Lance Barber (Young Sheldon). For Your Consideration is laugh out loud funny with it’s ridiculous situations. They rush to try to make their small movie to something more mainstream when they know it’s being considered. It’s so much fun and highly entertaining featuring so many wacky characters. It has very strong replay value to it, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from the Warner Archive Collection! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer is from a brand new restoration from the original camera negative. It’s a massive improvement over the previous DVD home video release. This comedy looks better than expected on blu ray. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on the disc. For Your Consideration isn’t the type of loud action film so don’t expect the audio to be explosive or anything but it’s solid for what it is. All of the dialogue is very clean, the laughs are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has an “Audio Commentary” with Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy. There’s plenty of information and inside stories shared here about For Your Consideration. They go over the concept, cast, locations, music, and their writing for it. These two have worked together for so long so the chemistry is amazing for this track. If you ever wanted to know more about this mockumentary and satire, give it a listen. It has the almost 39 minute “Over 30 Minutes of Hilarious Bonus Material”. This is a variety of deleted scenes and outtakes. It has a “Theatrical Trailer”.
