It was written/produced by Mark S. Allen (Fear PHarm 2, Don’t Answer, Amy’s F**k It List, 616 Wilford Lane, Apparition, and Ballbuster) and Howard Burd (Fear PHarm 2, Don’t Answer, Amy’s F**k It List, 616 Wilford Lane, Apparition, and Ballbuster). In 2021, the sequel Fear PHarm 2 was made!!!! If four high school seniors which includes Wendy (played by: Emily Sweet from V/H/S/99, Castle Freak, Eight Eyes, and Raging Midlife), Melanie (played by: Tiana Tuttle from Fear Pharm 2, The Final Level: Escaping Rancala, Girls’ Night In, and American Psychos), Rustin (played by: Chris Leary from Footnotes and Delivery), and Brandon (played by: Houston Stevenson from Arrow, iZombie, A Predator Returns, and A Predator’s Obsession) can make it all the way through a “human-maze” in under 2 hours, they can win $10,000. It sounds rather easy except that they have to escape the deranged Walker family that includes Herschel (played by: John Littlefield from Hulk, Fracture, Fear Pharm 2, Dexter, and Castle), Gemma (played by: Aimee Stolte from Fear Pharm 2, Escape the Night, Megalodon, and Verotika), Bernard (played by: Brandon J. White from Fear Pharm 2, Ballbuster, and 42), Deakin (played by: Carl Jackson from Fear Pharm 2, Don’t Answer, and Ballbuster), Andy (played by: Mario Rocha from Fear Pharm 2, Samurai Cop 2, Lucifer, and Power Rangers Kids Force), & Jack (played by: Mike Valentine from Fear Pharm 2, Amy’s F**k It List, Don’t Answer, and Fairyland). They need teenagers for their experiments and to help their business. Can they survive these psychopaths? or They just become their next unlucky victims???? Fear Pharm is kinda a cross between The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Haunt. Brother Deakin is promoted on the poster artwork, it always reminded me of the iconic Leatherface. I picked up the original DVD of this at Family Video in 2000 based on that alone. It’s from director Dante Yore that’s no stranger to the genre. The script starts out a little slow besides the opening scene. It takes almost 40 minutes to really get somewhere for Fear Pharm. It tries for it’s setup, character development, and building everything up before it gets wild. This definitely requires some patience but it rewards the audience for sticking around. Honestly, almost all of the main characters are unlikable. I think that’s done on purpose so no one cares if they end up getting slaughtered. It flips things here, the women are the stronger competition when it comes to hunting the humans. Both Tiana Tuttle and Emily Sweet stand out the most when it comes to the V.I.P group. Veteran actor John Littlefield is Herschel, the leader of the demented Walker family. He’s always solid in everything that I’ve seen him in. Aimee Stolte steals the show as the crazy Gemma. She’s probably the most ruthless member of this insane unit. She’s feels like a deadly combination of Harley Quinn and Baby Firefly. She has some funny lines to go with her madness. The rest of the cast includes Chris Leary, Houston Stevenson, Brandon J. White, Carl Jackson, Mario Rocha, Mike Valentine, Nadine Stenovitch (Silent Night Zombie Night), Isaiah Patterson (Ballbuster), Kelly Savanna Deaton (Fear Pharm 2), Jenna Burd (Fear Pharm 2), Jenn Tripp (Disrupted), Kevin Ton (Fear Pharm 2), and Philip Nathanael (Sharknado 3). The acting is all over the place here but there’s a few good performances here. Fear Pharm has a nice variety of villains, each family member has their own unique thing that makes them different from each other. They all use a weapon that becomes their own trademark for this horror franchise. The plot is basic but it knows exactly what type of movie it wants to be. It’s all about that gore, the creative kills, and it’s overall suspense. The special fx team is the real stars for Fear Pharm. I wish it started happening sooner but once it does, it’s non stop for the rest of it. It definitely keeps everyone on their toes because anyone here can be murdered at any time including it’s gruesome killers. I knew it had potential for being a horror series with possible sequels in the future when I originally watched this 6 years ago. They pumped out a follow up pretty quickly after this first one. The ending and the post credits gave a strong hint for it. I would like to see more from the Fear Pharm universe, I think a prequel would be awesome. This low budget slasher is a blast and it’s fun after the first half. It had a little hype when it was first released but it’s kinda been forgotten so hopefully this double feature gives it a brand new life and fan base, RECOMMENDED!!!! It’s a follow up to the 2020 Fear Pharm from the same creative team. The only survivor Melanie (played by: Tiana Tuttle from Fear Pharm, Gossip Girl, Still, Shades of Black and Girls’ Night In) has just gained consciousness again only to discover that she is being held hostage by the psychotic Walker family lead by the ruthless Herschel (played by: John Littlefield from Hulk, Fracture, Fear Pharm, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Contractor, Roswell, and The West Wing) so they can harvest her special skin in order to create a breakthrough skin care cream for their business. She notices that she’s not alone, she’s trapped with a variety of victims which includes Morgan (played by: Jessica Chancellor from Megalodon: The Frenzy), Brooklyn (played by: Taelyn Lewis from The Young and the Restless), Jacklyn (played by: Brooke Lusk from Smosh), Emma (played by: Brittany Bardwell from The Goldbergs), Staci (played by: Meghan Carrasquillo from Blind Waters), Ashlyn (played by: Julia Small from All of You Will Die), and Dawson (played by: Mason Greer from Battle Star Wars)!!!! Fear Pharm 2 almost feels like a reboot to the original because it’s very similar but it does change up a few things. It’s from director Dante Yore and the same writing team again. The script is much better for this sequel. They fixed some of the issues from the first one. The characters are much better and it doesn’t take it’s time to get to murder spree. It gets straight to the point, it directly follows what happened before. Tiana Tuttle returns as the tortured Melanie. She’s been through hell and more. She’s even stronger and more dangerous when it comes to playing these fatal games with these lunatics. The other hostages are way more likeable so the crowd wants to see them make it out alive somehow. There’s lots of bad ass chicks from this newer group going through the infamous maze. John Littlefield is even better as he returns as the head of the family, Herschel. They added so much to this villain role and made him more relatable. It’s the best performance when it comes to Fear Pharm 2. The rest of the Walker family comes back, Aimee Stolte steals the show one more time as the vicious Gemma. The rest of the cast includes Brandon J. White (Fear Pharm), Carl Jackson (Fear Pharm), Mario Rocha (Fear Pharm), Mike Valentine (Fear Pharm), Nadine Stenovitch (Fear Pharm), Taelyn Lewis, Meghan Carrasquillo, Mason Greer, Brittany Bardwell, Julia Small, Rich Vogt (616 Wilford Lane), Petri Hawkins Byrd (Clipped), Kevin Ton (Fear Pharm), Kelly Savanna Deaton (Fear Pharm), Jenna Burd (Fear Pharm), Gavin Supplee (Fear Pharm), and Cully Pratt (Mercy). It still has some hilarious one liners and solid dark humor in this but it goes for a different approach for this. It clearly heavily influenced by The Most Dangerous Game with a touch of Texas Chainsaw Massacre thrown in the mix. I enjoyed that they threw in some origin story material to explain why they do all of this. It has a more serious and harsh tone to it compared to the original. The Fear Pharm franchise is still dedicated to extreme violence, over the top gore, and entertaining murders. The special fx artists kill it literally once again and it’s the reason to check this slasher out. It has a retro and throwback vibe to it. From my research, I seem to be in the minority this opinion but I personally think Fear Pharm is actually better than the first feature. This is an underrated slasher series that doesn’t get the respect that it deserves. Deakin might be a Leatherface rip-off but he looks menacing and that’s the one monster from this franchise that will always stand out the most from the unhinged murderers. I know it’s been stuck in DVD hell for a long time so maybe more horror fans will give it a chance since both have been finally upgraded to HD for home video. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss these high definition presentations from Indican Pictures! These two 1080p (1.78:1) unrated transfers for each film are solid improvements over their previous DVD home video releases. The Fear Pharm series is very low budget but they always spent their money wisely when it came to their attention grabbing locations, gritty production design, and brutal special fx when it comes to the visuals. It has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 tracks on the disc for both slashers on this double feature. The audio adds to all of the thrills, tension, and suspenseful grotesque situations. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the killing is elevated, and the music has nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has a variety of Indican Pictures related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. Both films are on one disc together. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
