Fallout: Season Two 4K Review (MGM)

Fallout Season Two is a 2025 post apocalyptic television series co-written/executive produced/created by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel and Tomb Raider) and Graham Wagner (Silicon Valley, Portlandia, Baskets, and The Office). It was directed by Frederick E.O. Toye (The Boys, Lost, Chuck, The Walking Dead, Watchmen, and Snowpiercer), Liz Friedlander (The Following), Stephen Williams (Watchmen), and Lisa Joy (Westworld), It was executive produced by Jonathan Nolan (Westworld, Person of Interest, Reminiscence, and The Peripheral). It’s based on the popular video game series. The 3rd season has already been renewed and they are currently developing it. Maximus (played by: Aaron Moten from Father Stu, Emancipation, Disjointed, and Next) is dedicated to the Brotherhood of Steel, he wants to overthrow the domineering elders. Fallout goes on a new dangerous journey through the unpredictable “Mojave Wasteland” where Lucy MacLean (played by: Ellie Purnell from Yellowjackets, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Star Trek: Prodigy, Kick-Ass 2, and Army of the Dead) and The Ghoul (played by: Walton Goggins from Justified, The Shield, The Hateful Eight, The Righteous Gemstones, and Vice Principals) with Dogmeat travel to the chaotic city of New Vegas to find Overseer Hank MacLean (played by: Kyle MacLachlan from Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks, Dune, The Hidden, and The Doors)!!!! Fallout Season Two is even better than the original season and I really enjoyed that one. It’s always packed with suspense, thrills, and tension. There’s so many different plots going on at the same time for these 8 action packed episodes, this series should be extended a little more to fully dive info everything that’s happening around here. Fallout’s biggest flaw is that it feels a little rushed because it can’t honestly get to it all with the restrictions it has. Regardless, Fallout still does a great job at giving all these complicated arcs enough to at least deliver it’s story. As for the scripts go, it looks like the creative team took notes and made it more accurate when it came to the video game. Visually, it’s still one of the most stylish and the production design is amazing here. Ellie Purnell returns as the feisty Lucy MacLean. Her character has really changed from the last season after everything she’s been through. She’s much tougher now and she’s ready for anyone. She’s a true survivor that catches her opposition off guard because of her looks. Speaking of that, I am becoming a bigger fan of Ellie Purnell after seeing her in a few things recently. She is quality eye candy and she’s a bad ass in Fallout. Aaron Moten reprises his role of the brave Maximus. He went from nothing to a warrior in this. He probably has the best morals out of anyone in this universe. He’s a genuine good guy and he can be trusted to fight with when it comes to all of the evil lurking in Vegas. Walton Goggins comes back and he knocks it out of the park again as The Ghoul. I always enjoy all of the prequel material with Cooper Howard. He’s definitely my 2nd favorite character after his loyal companion Dogmeat. Dogmeat is a great addition to every scene. The character keeps getting to shine more in this TV show which is a blast to watch every week. The biggest surprise and scene stealer has to be the underrated Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean. He’s not in it as much as others but it just makes his impact bigger when he actually shows up. His shady plans unfold and Hank just gets so much worse when it comes to his humanity. He’s always been a good guy in damn near everything for his impressive career but this proves going against typecast works magic if done right. The rest of the supporting cast includes Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone franchise), Moises Arias (Ender’s Game), Frances Turner (The Boys), Ron Perlman (Hellboy franchise), Justin Theroux (American Psycho), Kumail Nanjiani (Stuber), Clancy Brown (The Shawshank Redemption), Brian Thompson (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation), Jon Gries (The Monster Squad), Natasha Henstridge (Species franchise), Dave Register (Dexter: Resurrection), Annabel O’Hagan (Rent Free), Johnny Pemberton (21 Jump Street), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool franchise), Rodrigo Luzzi (Dead Ringers), Sarita Choudhury (The Hunger Games franchise), Michael Cristofer (Die Hard: With a Vengeance), Zach Cherry (Severance), Martha Kelly (Euphoria), and Rachel Marsh (The Morning Show). The talent just keeps getting bigger and better in this Fallout universe. It has top notch visual and special fx. I wasn’t expecting it to be so gruesome, violent, and pushing the limits for such a mainstream production. This journey has the heroes running into some nasty and powerful bad guys while trying to complete their missions. There’s a killer build up that keeps you on your toes the entire experience. Season Two finally introduces some major players for this follow up and it sets up some crazy anticipation. That’s one thing Fallout likes to do is tease it’s audience and leaves them wanting more with a cliffhanger. Luckily, it’s coming back for sure so there’s no worries about an unfulfilled finish. Fallout is easily one of my favorite new television shows and it has delivered on every possible level so far. It might help because I’m not a diehard fan of the classic video game which usually ends up an issue for some people. I think they adapted it so everyone can understand it better. It’s highly entertaining and the replay value is extremely strong. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from MGM Studios! These 2160p (2.39:1) transfers with Dolby Vision and HDR10 look stunning in 4K for all 8 episodes. Fallout is one of best looking TV shows that’s out right now. It has stylish cinematography, sharp production design, great looking locations, and impressive visual/special fx that help these top notch visuals shine. It has a good amount of audio options which includes English: Dolby Atmos, English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1, and German: Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks on the UHDs. Season Two has plenty of action and violence to keep that home setup pounding. It really tests out those speakers and reference quality for sound for home video. All of the dialogue is crisp, the chaos is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH, French, German, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish subtitles. This is one of the highest quality releases when it comes to technical aspects. It has an “Audio Commentary” for “The Strip” episode with actors Kyle MacLachlan and Aaron Moten. It has the little over 2 minute “Welcome Back to the Wasteland”. It has the almost 3 minute “New Vegas”. It has the little over 17 minute “Fallout Fake Talkshow” with Ella Purnell, Johnny Pemberton, Walton Goggins, Aaron Moten, Justin Theroux, Macaulay Culkin, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Frances Turner. It has the almost 8 minute “RobCo Animated Series” featuring shorts “You Have Auto-Joined the RobCo Family”, “Enable Pipboy Auto-Updates for Safety Enhancements”, “Put Your Future in Safe Handy”, “Whatever Happens to Humanity, Protectrons Will Be There”, “Upgrade Your Securitrons Now or Risk Exposure to Violence”, and “Enjoy Security and Comfort at the Beautiful Lucky 38″. It has the almost 90 minute”Fallout: The Ghoul Log”. It comes with a slipcover. There’s several different home video versions of this release including a steelbook.
