Evil Bong 777 Blu Ray Review (Full Moon Features)
Evil Bong 777 is a 2018 horror comedy produced & directed by Charles Band (Evil Bong, Evil Bong 2: King Bong, Evil Bong 3: The Wrath of Bong, Gingerdead Man Vs. Evil Bong, Evil Bong 420, Evil Bong: High 5, & Evil Bong 666). As you can see, Evil Bong has become Full Moon Features most popular new franchise. It has spawned 7 films & 1 spin off since 2006. It raised $25,557 on Indiegogo to produce this sequel. 777 made it’s video on demand debut on 4/20 to celebrate it’s favorite day for the stoner friendly series. Evil Bong 777 follows the events of the previous 666. Lucy Furr (played by: Mindy Robinson from CSI, V/H/S/2, Sharknado 4: The 4th Awakens, & Check Point) is trying to return from Sexy Hell but her portal is too weak at the moment. Eebee (played by: Michelle Mais from Evil Bong series, Trading Places, & Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead) takes a trip & hits the Las Vegas Strip to cause a little mayhem. She is joined by her friends Rabbit (played by: Sonny Carl Davis from the Evil Bong series, TerrorVision, Trancers II, Seedpeople, & Butcher Boys), Faux Batty (played by: Robin Sydney from The Gingerdead Man, The Lost, Big Bad Wolf, Wicked Lake , & American Muscle), Misty (played by: Jessica Morris from Role Models, Bloody Murder, The Haunted Casino, & Venom), & The Gingerweed Man (played by: Brooks Davis from Evil Bong 666) to enjoy the entertainment of Sin City. They are all stunned by the performance of the puppet known as Hellvis. They decide to stay the night at a haunted hotel. The Gingerweed Man gets some “room service” from a prostitute (played by: Porn Star Leya Falcon) & ends up messing around with Faux Batty after that. Misty turns goth & Rabbit has a weird experience that he never wants to remember. Lucy Furr takes over Sexy Hell & returns to earth to get her revenge on all her enemies with some new friends. Can they stop this evil before it spreads?
Let’s start out with the positives for this. Evil Bong 777 was much better than High 5 & 666 in every possible way so it’s going in the right direction. The cinematography by DP Howard Wexler was impressive for it’s budget & the special effects by Tom Devlin’s 1313FX were pretty good also. It’s cool to see so many characters return after all these films. It had some nice sleazy moments in it. All of the women were beautiful in the feature. My favorite scenes where the ones in the Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum. It was a great background & it added to the action featured in it. Don’t get me wrong, I had fun with this. I was surprised how short this was, at 59 minutes it’s a easy watch so that’s one advantage of that but it felt more like a teaser than a full length feature. This film really didn’t go anywhere & the time it was about to get somewhere it was over already. The build up was there, I was ready to see them battle it out finally after all the hype but it went to the “to be continued” territory right away. I understand what Charles Band was doing, it’s a smart business move & it will easily lead to 888 soon. Honestly, I prefer Eebee as a villain compared to being the hero in this & some other sequels. I want to see that role go back to it’s roots sometime. If you are a fan of Full Moon, the Evil Bong franchise, & stoner comedies then you will probably enjoy this. I know this is a random thought but it’s Full Moon related. I am hoping to see more Gingerdead films get made in the future because I think they are under-rated & I really enjoy them!
Let’s talk about the high definition presentation. This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer looks way than you would expect from a low budget crowdfunded film. Charles Band is a mad scientist when it comes to picking out a crew & getting every cent used on the screen. The English: Dolby Digital 2.0 audio track is very solid & it really kicks in during some of the action scenes. As always, Full Moon is always good about music selection & picking the right composer. It’s elevated by it’s addition.
