Dust Bunny 4K Review (Lionsgate)

Dust Bunny is a 2025 monster film written, produced, and directed by Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, American Gods, Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Short Treks, Star Trek: Voyager, Heroes, Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, and Queer for Fear: The History of Queer Horror). It’s produced by Basil Iwanyk (Sicario, The Town, Wind River, Fight or Flight, Silent Night, Greenland franchise, John Wick franchise, A Star is Born, Basic, Kandahar, and The Expendables franchise). It grossed $1,376,711 worldwide at the box office. Ten-year-old Aurora (played by: Sophie Sloan from The Chemistry of Death, Zero A.D., and Annika) has an Intriguing Neighbor (played by: Mads Mikkelsen from Hannibal, Doctor Strange, Casino Royale, The Hunt, Clash of the Titans, and King Arthur) who kills real-life monsters, he’s a dangerous hit man for hire. When Aurora needs help killing the monster she believes ate her family, she procures his services. Suspecting that her parents may have fallen victim to hit men gunning for him, Aurora’s neighbor guiltily takes the job. To protect Aurora, he’ll need to contend with an onslaught of assassins which includes Conspicuously Inconspicuous Man (played by: David Dastmalchian from The Suicide Squad, Late Night with the Devil, Dune, Oppenheimer, Dexter: Resurrection, and Ant-Man franchise) plus a mysterious associate Laverne (played by: Sigourney Weaver from Alien franchise, Avatar franchise, Ghostbusters franchise, Imaginary Heroes, Galaxy Quest, The Cabin in the Woods, and Copycat), with killer heels, and accept that some monsters are real!!!! Bryan Fuller reunites with his Hannibal lead Mads Mikkelsen for one of the best of the year Dust Bunny. He’s been a powerful writer and producer for a long time now but this time he steps behind the camera for his full length directorial debut. It’s a visual experience that stays with the audience long after it’s over. It makes a huge impact, it’s a fantastic mix of horror and crime. You never see assassins and monsters mixed into one feature too often so Dust Bunny is special. Lead actor Mads Mikkelsen is awesome as the lethal Neighbor. He’s involved in a brutal world but it gets much worse when his young neighbor offers him a paying job that including killing a monster. Technically, he’s a real monster considering his job but he doesn’t really believe her at first. Newcomer Sophie Sloan is way better than expected as the terrified Aurora. She’s been through the foster system for a long time and she has trouble staying with families. No one really understands what’s happening around her but it doesn’t make much sense. Sigourney Weaver gives one of her greatest portrayals as handler Laverne. She controls some of the worst people around but she can’t help her mysterious friend anymore. A group of the most notorious contract killers are hired to eliminate their target as soon as possible. Character actor David Dastmalchian is the main hit man sent to do some gruesome work. He is unfortunately at the wrong place at the wrong time. The rest of the supporting cast includes Sheila Atim (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), Rebecca Henderson (Werewolves Within), Line Kruse (The Green Butchers), Caspar Phillipson (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Tibor Szauervein (Until Dawn), Nóra Trokán (Fight or Flight), Wael Alroyly (Bel-Air), and Narantsogt Tsogtsaikhan (A Good Day to Die Hard). A deadly killer is paid to kill a monster that haunts a little girl. He is warned about the the threat that is near but he isn’t sold on it until he actually experiences it for himself. Other vicious members of his secret society is sent over to finish the job so now he must protect from various types of legit monsters. Dust Bunny is all about it’s style and it’s great to see especially when the all of the action, horror, bullets, and violence kicks in. Everyone in this reality came come to terms with this unlikely situation really happening so they all come in for the slaughter. It’s a slow burn at the beginning but it’s worth the patience of the audience. The build up has massive tension and thrills before it fully reveals itself. It goes for a bigger crowd, both kids and adults can enjoy Dust Bunny. Yes, it gets violent but not enough to scare away a wider approach. The relationship between the two leads drives this to the very end, no one is safe in this. Dust Bunny is beyond entertaining and so much fun. This is a must watch when it comes to 2026. It’s one of my personal favorites for the year. It’s currently streaming on HBO Max if you are curious about it, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Lionsgate! This 2160p (2.98:1) transfer with HDR10 looks top notch on home video. Bryan Fuller’s visual style is very impressive for Dust Bunny. It’s one of the top films that really stand out so far for 2026. It has a variety of audio options which includes English: Dolby Atmos and English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1 tracks on the UHD. This action horror hybrid has plenty of bullets flying and monster chaos that amps up the audio plus the score shines here. All of the dialogue is crisp, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a big boost to it. It has English, English SDH, and Spanish subtitles. It has an almost 12 minute “Making Dust Bunny”. It has interviews with the main cast and crew from this. They go over the story, characters, relationships, mixing genres, locations, style, costumes, and so much more here. They say it came from childhood and fairytale inspirations. They chat about the collaboration between first time director Bryan Fuller and lead actor Mads Mikkelsen. They show their appreciation for the cast and it’s script. It has a variety of behind the scenes footage. This is the best extra when it comes to this home video release. It has the under a minute “Monster Craft”, this kinda comes off more as a teaser than anything for the creature design here. It has the little under a minute “Question and Answer Sizzle” with director Bryan Fuller and lead actor Mads Mikkelsen. They go over the development, Bruce Lee vibes, and it having an “Amazing Stories” feel to it. It has the under a minute “Cute to Cutthroat”, it’s dedicated to the the main monster in Dust Bunny. It has the little over a minute “Mads Choreography Video”, it’s a fast look at an action sequence. It has the little under a minute “Cast Explainers”. The lead actors go over the concept for this. It has the “Theatrical Trailer” for Dust Bunny. It comes with a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now including Moviezyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
