Doll Syndrome Blu Ray Review (Darkside Releasing)

Doll Syndrome is a 2014 extreme horror film shot, produced, and directed by Domiziano Cristopharo (Red Krokodil, A Taste of Phobia, Xpiation, House of Flesh Mannequins, The Museum of Wonders, Deep Web XXX, Ill: Final Contagium, and Dark Waves). It was written by Andrea Cavaletto (A Taste of Phobia, Xpiation, Eldorado, Blue Sunset, The House Guest, The Obsessed, Dead House, and The Transparent Woman). It was produced by lead actor Tiziano Cella (Start Again, The Night Watchman, and The Avatar Project). It’s loosely considered a follow up to 2012’s Red Krokodil. A mentally unhinged man (played by: Tiziano Cella from Dangerous Lies, Smoking Tar, Red Net, Evil Sherry, and Subject 0: Shattered Memories) stalks a metropolitan city while living in his own disturbed fantasy world while being isolated from society. He’s been dreaming of one day making his own living sex doll from a variety of his unfortunate victim’s body parts. His reality starts slipping away and ends up more twisted after he finds out that his favorite woman (played by: Aurora Kostova from House of Ravens, Tales to Tell in the Dark, and E.N.D the Movie) actually has a boyfriend (played by: Yuri Antonosante from Tode Ti, Hyde’s Secret Nightmare, When in Rome, Just Married, H.P. Lovecraft: Two Left Arms, Subject 0: Shattered Memories, and Shock: My Abstraction of Death). No one safe now from his madness. Can this monster be stopped???? Domiziano Cristopharo is one of my favorite extreme horror filmmakers. I’ve already reviewed a few of his films on here including one that’s considered connected to this even though it’s a different lead but it does have a similar vibe to it. Doll Syndrome is a silent film when it comes to dialogue or any of the actors here saying anything during this wild independent production. You do hear the sounds of the streets, moaning, and the impressive soundtrack as our main creep here goes into lunacy with his voyeurism. This one is a character study on a psychopath and it does take around 40 minutes to get somewhere so you must be very patient here for the batshit crazy payoff. They don’t hold back here with full frontal nudity, fully visible masturbation with a graphic finish, gory self mutilation, torture, and bizarre sex that includes a blow up doll is shown like it’s nothing in this low budget art house horror feature. It has a creepy atmosphere, Doll Syndrome makes you feel a little dirty after watching it. It’s definitely not for everyone especially if you are only into watered down mainstream stuff. If you want to experience something different then this might a good option for you. Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Darkside Releasing and Rising Sun Media. This 1080p (1.85:1) uncut transfer better than expected especially for a really low budget production. The visual style and cinematography shine here and this one stands out from your typical horror movie. It has an English: Dolby Digital 2.0 track. Technically, it’s just a Dolby Digital 2.0 that could be labeled any language because Doll Syndrome actually has no dialogue in it. The music and soundtrack does sound great here. “Behind-the-Scenes Video” is almost 12 minutes and it’s in Italian only. “Behind-the-Scenes”. It has promotional material that includes a “Photogallery Slideshow” and the “Original Teaser-Trailer”. “Interview” with director Domziano Cristopharo is a little over 19 minutes plus it has comments with the cast and crew. The chat with the filmmaker, actors Tiziano Cella and Yuri Antonosante is in English. They talk about the overall production, personal views, not being for the mainstream, and what they thought about Doll Syndrome.They even have a chat with Brandy the sex doll from the movie which is hilarious.
