Decadent Evil Blu Ray Review (Full Moon Features)

Decadent Evil is a 2005 direct to video horror film produced, story, and directed by Charles Band (Crash and Burn, Puppet Master franchise, The Gingerdead Man franchise, Evil Bong franchise, Blood Dolls, Head of the Family, Hideous!, Cutter’s Club, Death Streamer, Quadrant, Doll Graveyard, and Decadent Evil II). It was written by Domonic Muir (Critters, Puppet Master franchise, Decadent Evil II, Evil Bong, and The Gingerdead Man) under the alias “August White”. It was followed up by 2007’s Decadent Evil II. Nasty, horny human/reptile hybrid homunculus Marvin spends his days as a cursed cage-bound attraction at a decadent strip club called the “Meat Market” run by ancient vampire Morella (played by: Debra Mayer from Blood Dolls, Speck, The Gingerdead Man, and Dr. Moreau’s House of Pain). Morella with her fellow parasitic peelers which includes Sugar (played by: Jill Michelle from Decadent Evil II, Murder-Set-Pieces, and The West Wing) and Spyce (played by: Raelyn Hennessee from Cutter’s Club and Until the Night) drain the club clientele dry night after night. As Morella executes her final kills to become the most powerful vampire of all, Marvin’s son Ivan (played by: Phil Fondacaro from The Creeps, Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Willow, The Garbage Pail Kids Movie, Land of the Dead, Ghoulies II, Bordello of Blood, Blood Dolls, Hellraiser: Bloodline, and Troll) is armed with a plan to exact the ultimate revenge against her to stop this evil!!!! it starts out with some footage from Vampire Journals towards the beginning. Decadent Evil was actually made under the Wizard Entertainment banner instead of Full Moon Features at the time. This was Charles Band’s best production since since 1999’s Blood Dolls. He did 4 features between them that were kinda forgettable so this is a nice return behind the camera. It was written by one of the company’s most talented screenwriters Domonic Muir. Decadent Evil is a entertaining mix of vampires and strippers with an addition of the classic small monster that Full Moon has been known for all these years. Lead actress Debra Mayer is the seductive vampire queen Morella. This is one of the best roles from the Full Moon veteran, she’s the one running this crazy operation. She’s so close to achieving her demented goals to be unstoppable. She holds influence over both Sugar and Spyce. She wants a piece of every victim from her followers. Character actor Phil Fondacaro is great as the vengeful Ivan. He’s a skilled vampire hunter that has trained for this moment his entire life. He’s been trying to track down the one responsible for his father’s downfall. Both Jill Michelle as Sugar and Raelyn Hennessee as Spyce look amazing in Decadent Evil. This eye candy is not afraid to show off their bodies here. They know exactly why they are in this and they are both eager to tease. Ironically, they are strippers that you don’t get to see strip at all in this which is silly. The rest of the supporting cast includes Daniel Lennox (Decadent Evil II), Roger Toussaint (Illicit Dreams), April Gilbert (The Cleaner), Harmony Rose (Tight Wet Panties), Pat Siciliano (Sapphire Girls), Victoria Lane (Vigilante Cop), and C. Courtney Joyner (Dawn of the Dead). Decadent Evil feels like the 90’s Full Moon when they were backed by Paramount Pictures. It feels like it has a much bigger budget than it did. It had quality locations, sharp production design, and a nice visual style from director Charles Band with DP Keith J. Duggan (Delta Delta Die!, The Gingerdead Man, Death Row, Hallowed Ground, and The Boston Strangler). It’s a step above the previous few movies from the independent studio. It goes with a sleazy approach but it’s not actually loaded with nudity despite it’s concept. Don’t worry, it some skin featured in it. It has a hilarious and bizarre sex scene towards the end that the audience will never forget. The perverted Marvin looks like a distant cousin of either someone from Puppet Master or Blood Dolls so he has that familiar style to him. The special fx are actually really impressive for this one. I do wish it had a little more violence and lots of additional sleaze but it’s still a well made independent film especially since it was only shot in 6 days/nights. It’s shorter so it goes by pretty fast and it has a solid build up to everything. It’s a fun ride and it provides plenty of fascinating visuals. Honestly, Decadent Evil is better than it’s reputation. It’s very underrated. RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Full Moon Features! This 1080p (1.78:1) uncensored transfer is from a newer restoration from the original 35mm negative. I’ve owned Decadent Evil on DVD since it was originally released and this is a really nice upgrade compared to that older home video release. It has stylish cinematography, it capitalizes on it’s 3 main locations, creative production design, and high quality special fx when it comes to it’s sharper visuals. It has a few audio options which includes English: Dolby Digital 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks on the disc. It has more than a few chaotic moments but as most Full Moon Features it has a killer score that drives this low budget production. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, suspense is elevated, and the music has a big boost to it. It has the little over 16 minute “Behind the Scenes”. It has interviews with Charles Band, Daniel Lennox, Phil Fondacaro, Jill Michelle, Raelyn Hennessee, and Debra Mayer. Band mentions that it was shot in 6 days. Mayer goes over her character and motivations in this. Fondacaro and Lennox share their experiences from Decadent Evil. It focuses on Marvin and the special fx crew a little bit..It’s a solid featurette that takes the viewer behind the curtains of this horror movie. It has additional BTS footage here. It has the little over 4 minute “Blooper Reel” with some funny moments from the set. It has the “Original Trailer” for Decadent Evil. It has 6 Full Moon related “Trailers”. This was originally a Black Friday exclusive but it’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
