Dead Wrong Blu Ray Review (Mill Creek Entertainment)

Dead Wrong is a 2024 crime film written, produced, and directed by Rick Bieber (Don’t Sleep, Crazy, and The 5th Quarter). It’s based on the novel Deadly Instinct from author Kenneth Clark. Narcissistic low life husband Billy Evans (played by: Derek Smith from What/If, Criminal Minds, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Rookie) is married to his high school sweetheart Barbara (played by: Katrina Bowden from Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, 30 Rock, Piranha 3DD, Great White, American Reunion, Sex Drive, and Scary Movie V) but he is more focused on her own sister. He becomes very jealous over his best friend and the local mob boss Jacko Stern (played by: Chet Hanks from Fantastic Four, Empire, Greyhound, Your Honor and Shameless). Billy isn’t happy with his current life so he puts together a shady scheme with unlucky lawyer Ethan Biggs (played by: Rob Schneider from Duece Bigalow franchise, 50 First Dates, The Animal, The Hot Chick, Home Alone 2, Demolition Man, Big Daddy, and Judge Dredd) to get rich quick. Ethan is in debt because of his gambling problem to his vicious bookmaker Rollie Barnes (played by: Joshua Bitton from The Pacific, The Night Of, One Dollar, and Daredevil ). Billy’s plan doesn’t go as planned and it sets off a chaotic chain reaction that creates issues for everyone including corrupt insurance investigator Drake (played by: Cress Williams from Black Lightning, Fallen, Never Been Kissed, ER, Prison Break, The Flash, Beverly Hills 90210, Nash Bridges, and Grey’s Anatomy) and Barbara’s sister Wendy (played by: Chelsea Debo from Separation, The Cured, and Booksmart)!!!! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from Dead Wrong but it ended up surprising me. This independent crime feature kinda has a Fargo vibe to it. Greed takes over and it starts to ruin a variety of lives. The opening grabs your attention right away. Rick Bieber manages to put together a real solid cast for this low budget crime movie with a few familiar faces. There’s a few different sub-plots in Dead Wrong but it’s all connected just like Crash. It reminds me of the throwback crime cinema, it just has a old school feel to it. Lots of unlikable people like lead Derek Smith here, he’s pulls off being scumbag with ease. He’s the reason why everything goes to hell here. Rob Schneider steals the show as the loser that happens to be a lawyer that gets mixed up with these messed up situations. This is Rob Schneider’s greatest performance as an actor so far. He has always been underrated and he flexes his talents in this smaller film. His character can’t win in Dead Wrong no matter what he does. Like I said before, this has a great supporting cast that includes Katrina Bowden, Cress Williams, Chet Hanks, Chelsea Debo, Joshua Bitton, Chet Hanks, Blake Shields (Carnivale), and Rosalie Ward (Saints and Sinners). Dead Wrong has a nice mix of crime, action, suspense, comedy, and drama. I like how it evolves from a plan to a total disaster. There’s enough violence, double crossing, and twists to keep anyone entertained. It’s very fun and it has strong replay value. It’s one of the better independent crime movies in awhile. It’s worth checking out or picking up, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special feature from Mill Creek Entertainment! This 1080p (1.78:1) transfer is very solid especially for it’s low budget. It has quality cinematography, production design, and locations. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. All around the audio is impressive on this brand new home video release. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the chaos is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. The only extra is the “Director’s Cut” version that’s 104 minutes. It’s actually around 6 minutes shorter than the original one. I feel like this is the best cut of Dead Wrong, it has a much sharper and a overall better flow here. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
