A Quiet Place: Day One Steelbook 4K Review (Paramount)

A Quiet Place: Day One is a 2024 horror film co-written and directed by Michael Sarnoski (Pig, Olympia, and Fight Night Legacy). It was produced by John Krasinski (A Quiet Place franchise, IF, Jack Ryan, Apartment 7A, and The Office), Michael Bay (Transformers franchise, Bad Boys franchise, The Purge franchise, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise), Brad Fuller (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise, The Amityville Horror, Friday the 13th, and A Nightmare on Elm Street), and Andrew Form (The Hitcher, The Unborn, Ouija series, A Quiet Place franchise, Horsemen, and Black Sails). Jeff Nichols was the original choice for director. It’s a prequel to 2018’s A Quiet Place and 2020’s A Quiet Place Part II. The budget was $67,000,000 and it grossed $261,786,322 worldwide at the box office. Sam (played by: Lupita Nyong’o from Star Wars franchise, US, Little Monsters, Black Panther franchise, and Non-Stop) is on a group trip in New York City while dealing with her terminal illness when the devastating invasion that sends the world into silence begins. As she struggles to survive this disaster, she finds an new friend Eric (played by: Joseph Quinn from Stranger Things, Gladiator II, Overlord, Game of Thrones, and The Fantastic Four) that’s going through the same exact nightmare. They try to keep each other safe as the world slowly falls apart. Will the city stay quiet? or Will they all be demolished by these brutal monsters???? A Quiet Place: Day One takes you to the beginning where all this madness originally started. Day One is from the point of view of a bigger location like New York unlike the smaller spots featured in the others. It introduces brand new characters that experienced this brutal invasion from the previous and more mysterious aliens from before. Less is more is a great approach depending on the situation. They didn’t show the monsters much in the first two but they are all over in this prequel. I personally enjoyed that change for Day One and the visual fx are top notch. Some of the best that I’ve seen all year. The script gives this horror franchise something different compared to the originals. There’s more dialogue on Day One. Everything is up amped up and it’s done in a much bigger way. lol Plus it really makes you to eat some pizza. Lupita Nyong’o is great as Sam, she’s already going through a major illness at this point but she still fights to live for whatever time that she has left. She proves once again that she’s one of the best actresses in the game right now. Joseph Quinn as Eric is solid as someone that’s been outsmarting and getting away from these aliens that kill everyone when on first sound. He reminds me of a younger Robert Downey Jr. These two have good chemistry together as they run and hide from all this madness. Frodo the cat was probably my favorite character. The rest of the supporting cast includes Alex Wolff (Hereditary), Djimon Hounsou (Guardians of the Galaxy), Eliane Umuhire (Omen), Alexander John (Dinosaur Hotel), and Alfie Todd (House of the Dragon). A Quiet Place: Day One is basically a two person film for the most part so the two leads carry the entire production. This is basically the new type of post apocalyptic for modern cinema. It has plenty of suspense, action, and intense scenes. One of biggest complaints that I’ve seen about this prequel is some claiming that it’s boring which I don’t understand at all because it’s very entertaining almost the whole running time. I thought A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II were better than Day One but it still holds it’s own. I’m curious if they are going to do more with this horror series because it has potential for so much more. RECOMMENDED!!!! It’s one of the more impressive horror sci-fi movies of the year so far. It has great visual fx, locations, and cinematography that stand out here. It’s loaded with all kinds of audio options which includes English: Dolby Atmos, English: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, German: Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, French (Canada): Dolby Digital 5.1, Italian: Dolby Digital 5.1, Japanese: Dolby Digital 5.1, Polish: Dolby Digital 5.1, and Thai: Dolby Digital 5.1 on the UHD. The audio will put your home set up to the test. All of the dialogue is crisp, the invasion is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It’s packed with subtitles which includes English, English SDH, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Cantonese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Korean, Mandarin (Simplified), Norwegian, Polish, Slovak, Swedish, Thai, and Turkish. A Quiet Place: Day One is one of the highest quality technical home video releases of the year so far. “Day Zero: Beginnings and Endings” is almost 8 minutes. It has interviews with a variety of people from the production. It focuses on setting it in New York. They chat about the new cast and characters. They talk about director Michael Sarnoski and what he brought to the horror franchise. “In the City: Chaos in Chinatown” is almost 8 minutes. This is all about location for A Quiet Place: Day One. It goes over the shoot and it’s many challenges. “The Exodus: Against the Tide” is a little over 6 minutes. This highlights the making of one of the biggest scenes from the feature. “The Long Walk: Monsters in Midtown” is almost 8 minutes. It gives you an inside look into how they worked with the monsters in this. It showcases some of the cats that were in this and how it was working with them. It shows some appreciation for lead actor Joseph Quinn. They cover some of main scenes and it’s London locations. “Pizza at the End of the World” is a little over 7 minutes. It goes into the pizza subplot during this whole chaotic situation. It tackles the franchise, death, and it’s finale. It has a little over 15 minutes of “Deleted and Extended Scenes” which includes The Back of the Bus, Take Off Your Shoes, Finding the Farm, New Shoes, and Poetry at Patsy’s. It has a digital code and a blu ray copy of the release on it. It has top notch steelbook packaging and artwork for this version. There’s a variety of other variants available when it comes to home video for this prequel. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
