Cutter’s Club Blu Ray Review (Full Moon Features)

Cutter’s Club is a 2025 horror film produced and directed by Charles Band (Crash and Burn, The Gingerdead Man, Head of the Family, Hideous!, Doll Graveyard, Puppet Master franchise, Evil Bong franchise, Trancers franchise, Blood Dolls, Quadrant, and Death Streamer). It was written by Neal Marshall Stevens (Thir13en Ghosts, Monsters, Hellraiser: Deader, Super Hybrid, Puppet Master franchise, Head of the Family, Hideous!, The Creeps, Death Streamer, The Werewolf Reborn!, and Frankenstein Reborn!) under the alias Benjamin Carr. It was originally shot in 2005 on a 7 day schedule. It stayed unfinished and unreleased until now due to financial issues. A pair of young student doctors Jill Stevenson (played by: Melissa Searing from Deadly Beloved, Holding Trevor, and Faith Happens) and Jack Louis (played by: Davee Youngblood from The Plastic Men, NCIS, Lucifer, American Horror Stories, and Bigfoot County) are getting involved in a secret society of surgery fetishists and monster makers which includes Dr. George Roberts (played by: Tony Todd from the Candyman franchise, Final Destination franchise, Night of the Living Dead, The Rock, The Crow, Hatchet franchise, Platoon, Lean On Me, Wishmaster, and The Flash) called the “Cutters Club”. It’s overseen by the maddest of doctors. Creatures, carnage, mayhem and macabre malpractice take over here!!!! Cutter’s Club took 20 long years to complete. Director Charles Band has always kept busy over his career working on hundreds of productions but this one ran out of funding so it’s been in the vaults unreleased until now. It’s an interesting entry into the Hospital Horror sub-genre. It’s rarely done these days in the genre. This had a creative story that had all kinds of potential. It does feel a little rushed at times but considering it was an unfinished film, it was better than expected to be real. The special fx and monster were some of the stand out moments here. Horror Icon Tony Todd as Dr. George Roberts is the main reason to check this out. It’s a strong performance from the skilled actor. He goes full on over the top as the mad doctor. He elevates this with his presence. He just takes over every time he’s on screen. It’s true that he was doing whatever he could to pay the bills towards the end of his career but Cutter’s Club is one of his more entertaining choices from all of that. The rest of the cast includes Melissa Searing, Davee Youngblood, Jemal McNeil (Fruitvale Station), David Sean Robinson (The Wedding Singer), Raelyn Hennessee (Decadent Evil), and Jon Simanton (Epic Movie). Cutter’s Club was shot by legendary DP Mac Ahlberg (Crash and Burn, Re-Animator, From Beyond, House franchise, Dolls, Ghoulies, Beverly Hills Cop III, The Wonder Years, Innocent Blood, Trancers, Hell Night, and Chained Heat). That makes a huge difference when it comes to the visuals. He could make anything look bigger than what it actually was. I enjoyed the split personality struggle of one of the main characters in Cutter’s Club. It made the situations more unpredictable as it developed. The whole Jack and Jill relationship seemed more like a distraction rather than a quality plot point. It’s just there to move along to something more interesting. The secret society angle could have spawned some more movies if this actually got finished when it was originally planned. It kinda feels like Charles Band is Influenced by David Cronenberg for this one. It has some similar elements from his material in this. It’s only a little over an hour. The finish is definitely missing what it really needs to be fully completed and it’s obviously just put together that way because they never filmed the rest of what was needed for it. Regardless of that, Cutter’s Club is still very fun for what’s delivered and it’s a nice nod to throwback horror. I’ve been a big fan of both Charles Band and Tony Todd for a long time so it’s a true dream collaboration but I wish they were able to go back and somehow include what was originally intended for the final vision. You have to respect the independent and low budget world because a good amount would just left it buried forever but Full Moon put out the best possible version to pay tribute to Tony Todd after his passing. It made it’s premiere on Tubi and it’s still streaming on there if you are curious to check it out sometime!!!! The stylish cinematography really puts it over as something bigger than it’s actual budget. The skills of a behind the scenes crew will always help so much with stuff like this. It has a few audio options which includes English: Dolby Digital 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks on the disc. The sound design is decent for Cutter’s Club, the chaotic scenarios shine the most for the audio. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the mad science is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has the little over 2 minute “Cutter’s Club: Memories”. Charles Band says the negative was lost in the lab for 20 years. It unfortunately wasn’t found until Tony Todd already passed away. It has additional comments from cast members Melissa Searing and Davee Youngblood. They all share their favorite moments from it and they show their respect for the late great horror star. It has the “Official Trailer” for Cutter’s Club. It has multiple Full Moon related “Trailers”. It’s a nice addition to any Tony Todd or Charles Band collection.
