Cottonmouth Blu Ray Review (Cineverse)

Cottonmouth is a 2025 Western Revenge film co-written and directed by Brock Harris (Wild Game, Dance Dads, and Nomad Cowboys). It was co-written by Jared Bonner (Pickleheads, Sci-Fi 60, Dance Dads, and Wild Game). It was inspired by Alexandre Dumas’s “The Count of Monte Cristo”. It was produced by Talia Bella (Resurrection Road, The Gates, Brian, Model House, Wild Indian, Seven Cemeteries, and The Beldham) and Randy Wayne (Resurrection Road, Model House, Open House, 96 Minutes, Death Pool, and The Clapper). In Oklahoma Territory during 1895, Ed Dantes (played by: Martin Sensmeier from The Magnificent Seven, 1883, Icefall, The Ice Road, Yellowstone, and Wind River) gets betrayed by his best man Frank Ferrin (played by: Jonathan Sadowski from Friday the 13th, Live Free or Die Hard, She’s the Man, Chernobyl Diaries, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) at his wedding. He’s just a simple cowhand trying to make something out of his life until he is framed as a wanted criminal so he rots inside a brutal prison ran by the sadistic Victor Cain (played by: Ron Perlman from Hellboy franchise, Sons of Anarchy, Sleepwalkers, Cronos, Drive, Alien: Resurrection, and Blade II) until he learns the way of the outlaw from fellow prisoner Abe (played by: Esai Morales from NYPD Blue, Mission Impossible franchise, Ozark, Titans, La Bamba, Bad Boys, and From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series) and the resurrected Cottonmouth rides for his own personal bloody vengeance to everyone that did him wrong!!!! Cottonmouth mainly grabbed my attention because of veterans Ron Perlman and Esai Morales were involved. Westerns are a rarity these days and I’m always down with a revenge film so it had me sold. Brock Harris gets behind the camera and he shoots his biggest project so far with this one. The script is really dark at first which I appreciate. It had some horror elements to it once Ed is sold to the demented Victor Cain for his own twisted experiments. I was somewhat familiar with lead actor Martin Sensmeier, he’s been in some great productions over the years. Usually as smaller or supporting role but he’s the main guy here as the unlucky Ed Dantes. He’s about to get married and his whole world falls apart. He gets tortured and tormented when he’s purchased by the questionable doctor. His character has a great development and transformation when he becomes Cottonmouth. He gets a reputation for his gruesome ways. Jonathan Sadowski is real solid as the unlikable Frank Ferrin. This full of villains and he’s the one that you want to die the most so that says about this shady portrayal as the backstabber. Esai Morales really shines as the brave Abe. He’s been trapped in this hell house for awhile and he knows exactly what’s in store for him so he must survive somehow. He gets help when the younger Ed arrives and they put together a plan. Ron Perlman steels the show as the evil Dr. Victor Cain in Cottonmouth. He’s the warden to this painful camp that never ends well for it’s forced visitors. He enjoys fattening up his victims and eating them after they can’t handle anymore suffering. He really elevates this independent feature with his intense presence. The rest of the supporting cast includes Eric Nelsen (1883), James Landry Hébert (1883), Abbie Cobb (Suburgatory), James Austin Kerr (Reagan), Kimberly Guerrero (IT: Welcome to Derry), Jeremy Gauna (1923), Chris Freihofer (Reagan), Golden Garnick (Monster), Justin Parks (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2), Ardeshir Radpour (The Book of Boba Fett), Alexandra Harris (Secret Diary of an American Cheerleader), Sainty Nelsen (Spidey and His Amazing Friends), Alyssa Wapanatâhk (Riverdale), Triana Browne (Resurrection Road), James Whitecloud (King Ivory), and Philip Jackson Smith (Mozart in the Jungle). Cottonmouth feels much bigger than what it actually is, it has a skilled cast and crew that makes everything so much better. It’s full of violence, gore, action, suspense, mystery, drama, retribution, and horror. It has a good flow and pace to it, it keeps the audience entertained the entire time. Fans of the classic Count of Monte Cristo will love the concept and story to Cottonmouth. It’s heavily influenced by it and it doesn’t shy away from that fact. This independent Western really hasn’t gotten much press or attention since it’s release. Unfortunately, the little bit that I’ve seen for it is beyond negative and harsh. That’s probably why this ended up being a little surprise because I honestly wasn’t expecting much. It’s better than reputation, it delivers on everything that you would want from this type of movie. It’s a blast and it’s a fun experience especially after everything that the main character has to go through to get his gruesome vengeance, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Cineverse! This 1080p (2:39.1) unrated transfer looks very impressive for it’s home video debut for their smaller budget. They used their money wisely for Cottonmouth with the right departments and it clearly shows on the final product. It has gritty cinematography, creative production design, quality special fx, and a variety of sharp looking locations. It has a English: Dolby Digital 5.1 track on the disc. The audio is awesome for this action packed and violent Western. All of the dialogue is crisp, the revenge spree is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. This is a M.O.D (BD-R) home video release. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
