Cold Wallet Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA)

Cold Wallet is a 2024 suspense thriller produced, story, produced, and directed by Cutter Hodierne (Remember the Warriors: Wakefield the Movie and Fishing Without Nets). It was written and produced by John Hibey (Housecall and Fishing Without Nets). It was produced by Benjamin Wiessner (Werewolves Within, Thunder Road, The Quiet Maid, The Beta Test, 13 Cameras, The Wolf of Snow Hollow, and The Surrogate). Film maker Steven Soderbergh (Bill and Ted Face the Music, The Knick, Wind Chill, I’m Not There, A Scanner Darkly, The Jacket, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Insomnia, and the Ocean franchise) was an uncredited producer for this independent project. Set in the world of cryptocurrency where everything is a huge risk. Three desperate stock owners Billy (played by: Raúl Castillo from Smile 2, Wrath of Man, Hustle, Knives Out, and Army of the Dead), Dom (played by: Tony Cavalero from The Righteous Gemstones, The Dirt, School of Rock, Die Hart, The Binge, and The Conners), and Eva (played by: Melonie Diaz from Charmed, The First Purge, The Belko Experiment, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Be Kind Rewind, and Gringo) all have their lives completely ruined by crypto grifter Charles Hegel (played by: Josh Brener from Silicon Valley, Carry-On, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, Star Wars franchise, The Belko Experiment, The Internship, and Saturday Night) after he fakes his own to death to steal all the money from his company Tunlip. They track down the man who ruined them at a secret location. After they arrive there, all hell breaks loose. Will they get their revenge???? Cold Wallet is loosely based on the QuadrigaCX Scandal. It tells the story of three different people that put all their savings into the Tunlip company ran by the shady Charles Hegel. His company is struggling and he finds a way out by faking his own death. He takes all of the money from his business and he leaves all of his loyal customers broke from it. They find out his sinister plan and go to his private mansion where he’s hiding from the entire world. The script does take it’s time for character development at first but it pays you back with a tense and suspenseful finish. Raúl Castillo is great as the struggling father Billy. His woman has left him and she is always trying to keep their daughter away from him. He just wants to make a better life for himself so he can get more time with his kid. He plans on using his investment for a new place for them. Tony Cavalero is fantastic as Dom. He puts all of cash on the line plus he takes out a huge loan to save his place of his business. Melonie Diaz is fearless as Eva. She’s just desperate for a new beginning after so many issues and she’s the one that puts this dangerous idea in motion. These three have interesting chemistry. It goes from a strong team to pure paranoia. Josh Brener steals the show as the slimey Charles Hegel. He’s a scumbag without any remorse for what he has done. He’s a weasel, he tries to lie and turn his intruders into enemies. The rest of the supporting cast includes Michelle Joyner (Outbreak), Otoja Abit (Stonewall), Genevieve Adams (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Elizabeth Aspenlieder (I’m Not Him), Lizzy DeClement (New Amsterdam), Joanna Sylvie Weinig, Zoe Winters (Succession), and Nigel Gore (Brotherhood). Technically, Cold Wallet can be considered a holiday movie since it takes place during it. It takes a different approach to the heist sub-genre and it’s a unique entry for home invasion also. You definitely have to be a little patient here because it’s one of those productions that builds everything up but it doesn’t feel that slow towards the beginning. Like I said before, you are rewarded because it really picks up when they find the sleazy criminal. Cold Wallet provides so much suspense and tension that could go anywhere at any time. It keeps it’s audience on it’s toes when it’s most important. I wasn’t sure how this one would turn out considering it’s concept but it impressed me with it’s twists and you never knew what was going to happen next with Cold Wallet. I swear most of these smaller projects from Well Go USA actually outshine lots of their heavily promoted wide releases, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer is very impressive and it’s one of the best looking productions from this label. The main location and it’s chilly weather adds to it’s atmosphere, these two elements really pop.out when it comes to the visuals. It has a few different audio options which includes has English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. The audio delivers on all it’s suspenseful and chaotic moments. All of the dialogue is crisp, the high tension is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH and French subtitles. The only extras on this home video release is a “Trailer” for Cold Wallet & various Well Go USA related “Trailers”. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R.
