Cocaine Werewolf Blu Ray Review (Cleopatra Entertainment)

Cocaine Werewolf is a 2024 horror comedy film directed by Mark Polonia (Church of the Damned, Splatter Farm, Feeders, Lethal Nightmare, Bad Magic, Cocaine Shark, Amityville franchise, Camp Blood franchise, and Hallucinations). It’s written by Tyger Torrez. It’s produced by David Sterling (Camp Blood franchise, Axegrinder franchise, Things franchise, House of Flesh Mannequins, Scream Queen, The 27 Club, and the Witchcraft franchise). A low budget film crew which includes Vanita (Jamie Morgan from House Shark, Amityville Island, Jurassic Shark franchise, and Return to Splatter Farm), Tiffany (Greta Volkova from Sharkenstein, Bigfoot vs. Zombies, It Kills, and Tales of Dracula), Slash (Cody Losinger from The Last Chainsaw Massacre), Dirk (Addison Turner), and Allister (Tim Hatch from Amityville Turkey Day, Cocaine Pig, Amityville Thanksgiving, and the Camp Blood franchise) is putting together a cheap horror movie about a killer clown in northern Pennsylvania. As the cast and the crew struggle to finish their direct to video slasher, they start to clash. They try to help out a stranger named Jack (Brice Kennedy from Peter Rottentail, Splatter Beach, and Black Mass) but after doing some cocaine, the outsider transforms into something that’s vicious and looking to rip them apart. Their independent production gets an unexpected cast member that happens to be a real werewolf!!!! Cocaine Werewolf knows exactly what type of film it’s making here. It’s a smart title for a direct to video feature because it definitely grabs your attention. Cocaine Bear started a whole new sub-genre when it was released and it had some success. Since then, we have seen a variety of similar projects like Cocaine Shark, Cocaine Cougar, Cocaine and Werewolves, Cocaine Ape, Cocaine Roach, Cocaine Pig, Cocaine Demon, Crackcoon, Crackodile, Attack of the Meth Gator, and Amityville Cocaine Bear. Legendary S.O.V director Mark Polonia has no problem poking fun at his extremely low budget productions. The whole set up is them putting together a cheap slasher flick while running into a real monster. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, this formula worked out great for the cult film maker but these days it gets lost in the mix with so much higher quality competition. The script is all over the place. It has a few hilarious moments but most of the humor falls a little flat here. The main cast that includes Jamie Morgan, Greta Volkova, Brice Kennedy, Cody Losinger, Addison Turner, and Tim Hatch is actually decent in Cocaine Werewolf. You get your typical over the top roles but it works for this. Brice Kennedy gives the best performance from the cast as Jack. The rest of the supporting cast includes Polonia regulars such as Yolie Canales (Sharkula), James Carolus (Amityville Exorcism), Marie DeLorenzo (Sister Krampus), Titus Himmelberger (Jurassic Exorcist), James Kelly (Reel Monsters), Jeff Kirkendall (Amityville in Space), Michael Korotitsch (Teddiscare), Noyes J. Lawton (Bride of the Werewolf), Alyssa Paige (R.I.P. Van Winkle Part 3), and Ken Van Sant (Cocaine Shark). The special fx from Josh Wasylink (Psycho Goreman, Silent Night, V/H/S Viral, Independence Day: Resurgence, Debbie Does Demons, Cabin Fever 3, and the Terror Toons franchise) and Anthony Polonia (Cocaine Shark, Hell on the Shelf, Lycanimator, Sharkenstein, Sharkula, and Empire of the Apes) are way better than I thought it would be and the werewolf has a really unique look in this. It has a solid body count. Cocaine Werewolf delivers plenty of gore and it has some quality nudity to satisfy horror fans. Mark Polonia has directed 91 movies at this point and honestly Cocaine Werewolf is one of his best besides his earlier S.O.V work. Cleopatra Records provided an interesting rock soundtrack that includes The 69 Cats, Front Line Assembly, Pink Fairies, Switchblade Symphony, Hawkestrel, Synaesthesia The Brains, Mike Pinera, Hollywood After Dark, and others. The music featured in this is something you usually don’t hear when it comes to the genre but it makes it stand out more. Cocaine Werewolf is a no budget horror comedy so keep your expectations low but it does end up being somewhat entertaining for it’s short running time. Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Cleopatra Entertainment! This 1080p (1.85:1) unrated transfer is one of the better looking productions from Polonia Bros Entertainment. It has an English: Dolby Digital 2.0 track on the disc. The audio is better than expected here especially the soundtrack. All of the dialogue is very clean, the bloodshed is elevated, and the music has a killer boost to it. It has an “Audio Commentary” with director Mark Polonia. He chats about some scenes being switched around in the final version. He talks about working with Cleopatra and the soundtrack that they provided for this. He shows his appreciation for the cast and crew, they filmed this in the winter so it’s very cold. He had his actors play it normal when it came to the comedy so it would come off more natural. His son Anthony did some of special fx and he brings up some of his work here. He mentions how hard it is to put together and direct movies especially in the independent world. He points out some locations that he used for some of his other projects. Mark Polonia has a good time revisiting his low budget film and he’s very scene specific during the track. It has a little over 2 minute “Slideshow”. It has a “Trailer” for Cocaine Werewolf. It has various “Trailers” for Cleopatra Entertainment films. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
