Changeland Blu Ray Review (Gravitas Ventures)

Changeland is a 2019 comedy written and directed by Seth Green (Robot Chicken, Saber, AL TV, and The Team Unicorn Saturday Action Fun Hour!). It’s produced by Breckin Meyer (Men At Work). On his anniversary, Brandon (played by: Seth Green from IT, Austin Powers franchise, Idle Hands, Rat Race, Can’t Hardly Wait, Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and Knockaround Guys) finds out that wife is cheating on him. He’s been planning a secret trip to Thailand but now he’s stuck going to it alone until his best friend Dan (played by: Breckin Meyer from Rat Race, Road Trip, Clueless, 54, The Craft, Go, and Freddy’s Dead) volunteers to join him. Brandon doesn’t want to get a divorce and he’s still trying to figure out how to save his marriage but this vacation will be a nice distraction from it. During the three days that they are away, they end up meeting some wild strangers which includes Ian (played by: Macaulay Culkin from the Home Alone franchise, The Good Son, My Girl, Uncle Buck, and American Horror Story) and Martin (played by: Randy Orton from WWE, The Condemned 2, Countdown, and 12 Rounds 2). This unpredictable trip really starts to change their lives, what will happen next???? Changeland is very underrated, I haven’t seen much about this independent comedy. It’s a fascinating buddy trip film that takes place overseas. It gives two best friends a chance to reconnect after one of them goes through personal problems. They are not afraid to call each other out and it makes their friendship stronger. Actor Seth Green makes his full length feature writing and directing debut with Changeland. The script is hilarious and they get put in so many interesting situations during their short trip. Don’t get me wrong when I say this but I personally think the two main roles should have been reversed here. I see Breckin Meyer more as a Brendan type of character and Dan just feels like a perfect role for Seth Green. I can see why Seth did it, it’s something different plus he’s the one who created all of this. Seth Green as Brendan still gives a solid performance. This guy has his life turned upside down and he needs a distraction from it. Breckin Meyer as Dan is the friend that shows up no matter what. Meyer is really good as Brendan’s hype man and he makes him realize what he’s been doing with his life lately. These real life friends obviously have amazing chemistry together so that’s what really drives Changeland. Macaulay Culkin steals the show as Ian. He’s the free spirited guy that the duo meet when go to a new location on their vacation. It’s Culkin’s greatest performance since he was a kid. He makes their night out and partying way more entertaining. Professional wrestler Randy Orton as Martin proves that he can actually act if he’s given the right material and director. This is Orton’s most impressive turn when it comes to his acting career. He looks like a giant compared to the two leads but he has a heart of gold. The rest of the supporting cast includes Brenda Song (The Social Network), Clare Grant (Holidays), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Wolfblood), Rose Williams (Curfew), and Kenneth Won (Royal Doctor). The locations, soundtrack, and the overall look just elevate Changeland. It starts out a little depressing then it gets very fun. The independent atmosphere is over this one, it’s one of more stylish comedies in awhile. I hope Seth Green decides to do some more projects behind the camera in the future. It was so much better than I thought it would be, it has excellent replay value. I’ve already watched it a few times since it’s been out. RECOMMENDED!!!! It has excellent cinematography and beautiful locations that really stand out here. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 tracks on the disc. The audio is solid, it’s not really the type to be explosive or anything like that but the music sounds fantastic on it. All of the dialogue is crisp, the adventures are elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. It has a little over a minute “Behind the Scenes”. It has interviews with the cast and crew. It has some footage from the production. They focus on Thailand for this one. It has an almost minute “Blooper” with Seth Green. Some disastrous weather creates a hilarious moment. It has the little over a minute “Exploration into what Changeland is About”. The cast and crew chat about Changeland. They talk about the story and it’s theme. It has the little over a minute “Working with Seth Green”. The cast and crew show their appreciation for the director and writer of this independent feature. It has the little over 2 minute “The Cats”. Everyone from the movie discusses all the cats from it and the others that were around doing the shoot. It has the “Trailer” for Changeland. It’s a professionally made on demand BD-R. It’s streaming on Hulu at the moment if you are curious about it. It’s available everywhere right now including MovieZyng.com, CHECK IT OUT!!!!!
