It’s based off the “Kree-Skrull War” storyline from the early 70s. It was originally developed in 2013. This is a prequel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe & it features a variety of characters from past films. It was produced by Stan Lee (The Avengers franchise, Iron Man franchise, Spider-Man franchise, Blade franchise, & X-men franchise), Kevin Feige (Black Panther 1/2, Guardians of the Galaxy 1/2, Thor franchise, & Captain America franchise), & Louis D’Esposito (Doctor Strange, Agent Carter, Ant-Man 1/2, & Black Widow). It had a $175 million budget & it grossed $1.128 billion wordwide at the box office!!!!

In 1995 on the Kree Empire’s capital planet of Hala, Starforce member Vers (played by: Brie Larson from Room, Avengers: Endgame, Kong: Skull Island, & Free Fire) suffers from amnesia & recurring nightmares involving an older woman. Yon-Rogg (played by: Jude Law from Sherlock Holmes 1/2, Gattaca, The Talented Mr. Ripley, & Road to Perdition), her mentor & commander trains her to control her abilities while the Supreme Intelligence urges her to keep her emotions in check. During a mission to rescue an undercover operative infiltrating a group of Skrulls lead by Talos (played by: Ben Mendelsohn from Animal Kingdom, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Ready Player One, & The Dark Knight Rises). A probe of Vers’s memories leads them to Earth. Vers escapes & crash-lands in Los Angeles. Her presence attracts S.H.I.E.L.D. agents Nick Fury (played by: Samuel L. Jackson from Unbreakable, the Marvel franchise, Pulp Fiction, & Kingsman: The Secret Service) & Phil Coulson (played by: Clark Gregg from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers, Iron Man 1/2, & Thor). Vers recovers a crystal containing her extracted memories. Talos, disguised as Fury’s boss Keller orders Fury to work with Vers & keep tabs on her. Using her extracted memories, Vers & Fury go to the Project Pegasus installation at a U.S. Air Force base. They discover Vers was a pilot presumed to have died in 1989 while testing an experimental jet engine designed by Dr. Wendy Lawson (played by: Annette Bening from American Beauty, Bugsy, The Grifters, & Mars Attacks!), whom Vers recognizes as the woman from her nightmares. Fury discovers that Talos was disguised as his boss & helps Vers escape in a cargo jet with Lawson’s stowaway cat Goose. They fly to Louisiana to meet former pilot Maria Rambeau (played by: Lashana Lynch from Bond 25, Fast Girls, Powder Room, & Brotherhood). Rambeau & her daughter Monica (played by: Akira Akbar) reveal that Vers is actually Carol Danvers. Talos catches up with them & Carol finds out nothing is what it seems as she starts to remember her past. Who can she trust now????

If you grew up in 90s or you are just a fan of that time period then you are going to love Captain Marvel! 90s nostalgia is jammed packed in this superhero film. Everything from the scenery which includes a Blockbuster Video to a very fun soundtrack that’s loaded with hits from those days that takes you back to that time. This is one of the funnest Marvel productions so far. It’s a throwback to the popular sub genre & it introduces the world to a powerful female character. It takes a minute for some serious action here but the finale is a blast. It has a perfect balance of comedy with more than a few laugh out loud moments. Brie Larson, Jude Law, Ben Mendelsohn, & Samuel L. Jackson all had great performances in Captain Marvel. Nick Fury finally got some real screen time in a M.C.U film & it’s awesome to see him get a bigger role after all this time. It also features a few characters from past Marvel features like Phil Coulson plus Ronan & Korath from Guardians of the Galaxy. Goose was my favorite character from the movie & I really hope Goose ends up in other projects from Marvel in the future. This was definitely different from everything else in the same universe & It was beyond entertaining. The replay value is off the charts here, I personally think it gets better & better with each viewing, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Disney! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks stunning on blu ray, I can only image what the 4K looks like! It captures the 90s perfectly here & it brings back memories from then. It has a good balance of both earth & space so it has some crazy visuals that shine in HD. It has 4 different audio tracks which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1, & Portuguese: Dolby Digital 5.1 on the release. The dialogue is very clean, all the action has a nice boost to it, & the killer soundtrack is elevated on it. Captain Marvel sounds amazing in my home set up, one of the best releases all year when it comes to that department. It also has English SDH, French, Portuguese, & Spanish subtitles.
