Bring It On is a 2000 teen comedy directed by Peyton Reed (Ant-Man Trilogy, The Mandalorian, Yes Man, The Break-Up, and The Weird Al Show). It was co-produced and written by Jessica Bendinger (Sex and the City, The Truth About Charlie, First Daughter, Stick It, and Aquamarine). It was produced by Marc Abraham (Children of Men, The Last Exorcism, In Time, RoboCop, The Thing, Slither, Sugar Hill, Air Force One, and Dawn of the Dead). The budget was $11,000,000 and it grossed $90,449,929 worldwide at the box office. The Toro cheerleading squad has spirit, spunk, sass and a killer routine that’s sure to land them the national championship trophy for the sixth year in a row. For newly-elected team captain Torrance Shipman (played by: Kirsten Dunst from the Spider-Man Trilogy, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, Little Women, Civil War, Elizabethtown, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), the Toro’s road to cheer glory stumbles when she discovers their perfectly choreographed routines were stolen from a hot hip-hop squad across town lead by Isis (played by: Gabrielle Union from Love and Basketball, Bad Boys II, 10 Things I Hate About You, L.A.’s Finest, She’s All That, and Cradle 2 the Grave). Now the squad must scramble to find a new routine to compete in this year’s competition!!!! They want to prove everything wrong so it’s time to prepare for a cheer off!!!! When popular Britney Allen (played by: Hayden Panettiere from I Love You Beth Cooper, Heroes, Remember the Titans, Scream franchise, and Joe Somebody) moves from posh Pacific Vista to working class Crenshaw Heights, her life goes from cheer-topia to cheer-tastrophe. Britney finds herself at odds with her new classmates, especially head cheerleader Camille (Solange Knowles-Smith from Ghost Whisperer, Johnson Family Vacation, and Listen Up). When she wins a spot on the other cheer squad and faces her former team in a cross-town cheer-off to star in music sensation Rihanna’s (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, Battleship, This is the End, Smurfs, Bates Motel, and Ocean’s Eight) upcoming video, only one team can “bring it” and earn a place in cheer history!!!! Bring It On: In It to Win It is a direct to video 2007 teen comedy directed by Steve Rash (Good Advice, The Buddy Holly Story, Eddie, Queens Logic, Held Up, and Vanishing America). It was written by Alyson Fouse (Scary Movie 2, Act Your Age, Uncle Buck, and Honey 2) and Elena Song (Bring It on: Fight to the Finish, Secrets of Sulphur Springs, A Cinderella Story: If the Shoe Fits, and Andi Mack). The feisty East Coast Jets lead by Brooke (played by: Cassandra Scerbo from The Wolf and the Lamb, Make It or Break It, Truth or Dare, and Sharknado franchise) have ruled the Cheer Camp Championships with spunk and attitude for the past few years. Now the spirited West Coast Sharks lead by Carson (played by: Ashley Benson from Spring Breakers, Pretty Little Liars, The Birthday Cake, and Pixels) think they have the right moves and grooves to be crowned top squad. When cheertastrophe strikes and their dreams of taking home the top prize are in jeopardy, the leaders of both squads realize they’ll have to work together and bring it on like never before!!!! Bring It on: Fight to the Finish is a direct to video 2009 teen comedy directed by Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop, Honey franchise, Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, Yellowjackets, The Perfect Match, and Black Lightning). It was written by Alyson Fouse (Bring It On franchise) and Elena Song (Bring It On franchise). Head cheerleader Lina (played by: Christina Milian from Be Cool, Pulse, Man of the House, Love Don’t Cost a Thing, Torque, and Dexter: Original Sin) is forced to move away with her family from the urban streets of East Los Angeles to the sunny beach town of Malibu. She doesn’t really fit at her new school but she wants to beat her former friend Avery (played by: Rachele Brooke Smith from Two and a Half Men, The Nice Guys, Iron Man 2, Class Act, and Nightmare Shark) at the Spirit Championships!!!! Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack is a 2017 teen comedy directed by Robert Adetuyi (Turn It Up, You Got Served: Beat the World, Stomp the Yard, Girl in the Cellar, Fame: A Temptations Story, and Desire: A Temptations Story). It was written by Alyson Fouse (Bring It On franchise). When Destiny (played by: Cristine Prosperi from Degrassi: The Next Generation, Open Heart, The Wrong Cheerleader, and Nicky Deuce), captain of three-time national champions “The Rebels,” is challenged to a global cheer showdown by the popular new squad known as “The Truth” The “Cheer-lebrity,” organizes a virtual battle for squads from all around the world. It seems like everyone wants to take down Destiny and her elite team. They could succeed in a major upset. Destiny must rise to the challenge, set her ego aside and figure out who her real friends are!!!! Bring It On: Cheer or Die is a 2022 slasher film directed by Karen Lam (Stained, Very Bad Men, Armageddon Road, The Curse of Willow Song, and Shevenge). It was written by Rebekah McKendry (All the Creatures Were Stirring, Glorious, Elevator Game, Psycho Granny, and Separation) and Dana Schwartz (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law). This premiered on the SYFY channel. When Abby (played by: Kerri Medders from SEAL Team, Promised Land, Spin, Do Not Reply, and The Runner) and her Diablos teammates are forbidden from doing any risky cheer stunts by their overly cautious school, they fear that they will be laughed out of the upcoming regional cheer competition. The squad comes up with a creative plan to choreograph a winning routine in secret, at a nearby abandoned school. Once at the school to rehearse, one by one the cheerleaders begin to disappear. By the time they realize they’re locked inside with a killer, it may be too late for any of them to survive. They must use their skills to fight off a killer who gives them only one choice: Cheer or die!!!! I have way more respect for the original Bring It On after watching all 7 of these movies from the popular franchise. It’s not exactly my usual type of film but it’s well made for it is. I love the cheerleader sub-genre but it’s drastically changed since the early 90’s and before. They used to be over the top fun with sleaze and action. These modern ones are mainly targeted to younger girls that are into the competitive sport or just like dance features. 2000’s Bring It On from the creative mind responsible for the Ant-Man franchise from the MCU. Clearly, you could see director Peyton Reed’s potential in this. Kirsten Dunst really shines in this environment as the ambitious Torrance Shipman. Her rivalry with the skilled Gabrielle Union that represented a completely different cheer world as the feisty Isis. Those two had killer chemistry together during this little war between them. It was loaded with familiar faces. The supporting cast includes Eliza Dushku (Wrong Turn), Jesse Bradford (Swimfan), Clare Kramer (The Rules of Attraction), Nicole Bilderback (Clueless), and Rini Bell (Road Trip). The first sequel Bring It on: Again is one of the decent efforts when it comes to follow ups for this. It just feels like a cheaper imitation of Bring It on but it’s still solid. All or Nothing is actually one of the better direct to video productions from the Bring It On universe. It tries to do it’s own thing compared to the previous two and I appreciate that. Lead actress Hayden Panettiere is really good as Britney Allen. She’s more developed than most of the empty main characters in these cheerleader comedies. She gives a stand out performance in this lesser known entry. Solange is just okay as her potential rival Camille but she does have a strong presence to her so that helps. Pop star Rihanna shows in a cameo in this. She’s the main reason why this competition is going on. Bring It On: In It to Win It was the first real dud when it came to the Bring It On series. It’s extremely forgettable and full of cliches. Bring It on: Fight to the Finish is probably the third best one from this pom pom filled collection. It went on it’s own direction so it made more unique compared the usual formula in most of the sequels. It doesn’t feel like the same movie again and the script provides more for these younger roles. Lead actress Christina Milian looks great in this and she can handle her own with everyone on the screen. She’s gives a brave portrayal as Lina and she never backs down from anything. It was great to see Laura Cerón (ER, Station 19, Shameless, and 9-1-1: Lone Star) get a bigger character in something. She was always great in ER but I felt like they wasted her most of the time. She is the supportive mother Isabel, it added to Lina’s dynamic and overall journey. I absolutely hated Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack and it’s the lowest point when compared to the rest. It just shouldn’t have been made and the concept doesn’t work at all. I actually covered Bring It On: Cheer or Die when it originally released on home video. I had high expectations considering that they turned the popular teen comedy into a slasher film. It came out of nowhere but it was the fresh breath of air that Bring It On needed. After going through all 7 cheerleading features, I can honestly say I have more appreciation for this horror sequel than I did back in 2023. It’s still a mess and it had way more potential that never happens but it blows away In It to Win It and Worldwide #Cheersmack. Kerri Medders is a respectful lead as the Abby Synger. She obviously goes through the hardest situations in this entire run. The rest of the girls had it easy compared to her nightmare. It actually one of the most entertaining follow ups in the Bring It On franchise. This series is hit or miss, it was a chore to get through a few of these films but I don’t regret it. Here’s some of the worthy mentions for the supporting cast which includes Bree Turner, Anne Judson-Yager, Faune Chambers, Ashley Benson, Cassandra Scerbo, Rachele Brooke Smith, Cristine Prosperi, Missi Pyle (Galaxy Quest), Kevin Cooney (Austin Powers franchise), Danielle Savre (Station 19), Felicia Day (Supernatural), Jake McDorman (Watchmen), Emme Rylan (General Hospital), Jennifer Tisdale (The Hillside Strangler), Ashley French (Sabrina: Secrets of a Teenage Witch), Gabrielle Dennis (Luke Cage), War Shazar (Honey 2), Holland Roden (Teen Wolf), Meagan Holder (Monarch), Cody Longo (Piranha 3D), Nikki SooHoo (Heathers), Sophie Vavasseur (Resident Evil: Apocalypse), Alexandra Beaton (The Next Step), Megan Best (Seance), Makena Zimmerman (A Very Jonas Christmas Movie), Marlowe Zimmerman (The Bad Seed Returns), Madison MacIsaac (Nobody 2), Erika Prevost (The Boys), Cassandra Potenza (Clown in a Cornfield), and Tiera Skovbye (Riverdale). Bring It On 7-Movie Collection is not for everyone but it does offer some variety for the dance and cheerleading sub-genres. They are fun for the most part. I’d recommend being selective for viewing Bring It On but it has a few worth checking out!!!! Let’s discuss these high definition presentations and list the special features from Universal Pictures! These 1080p transfers for Bring It On (1.85:1), Bring It On Again (1.78:1), Bring It On: All or Nothing (1.78:1), Bring It On: In It to Win It (1.78:1), Bring It On: Fight to the Finish (1.78:1), Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack (1.78:1), and Bring It On: Cheer or Die (1.78:1) are all the same restorations as their previous home video releases. Obviously, the original Bring It On looks the best out of all 7. It had a great budget and it was pushed hard during it’s release. Honestly, all of the sequels look way better than expected for either direct to video or made for television. The first few for Bring It On looks very similar when it comes to the visual style. They changed up towards the later ones. Every Bring It On feature has an English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track on this 7 disc set. Bring It On has an additional French: DTS 2.0 track. Both Bring It On: Fight to the Finish and Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack has additional French: DTS 5.1 and Spanish: DTS 5.1 tracks on their Blu Rays. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the cheers are elevated, and the music has huge boost to it. I’d say the soundtracks pop the most when it comes to the audio for all the Bring It On efforts. All 7 movies have English SDH subtitles. Bring It On, Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, and Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack have French subtitles. Bring It On: Fight to the Finish, Bring It On: Worldwide #Cheersmack, and Bring It On: Cheer or Die have Spanish subtitles.
