Breaking News in Yuba County went under the radar due to Covid-19 and a few delays during it’s release. If you looked at the impressive cast and crew for this, it might grab your attention a little faster. This dark comedy was better than expected. The script was lots of fun, it had a nice mix of humor and violence in it. Oscar winner Allison Janney gives a great performance here as the desperate suburban wife looking for attention after being ignored for most of her life. Matthew Modine is the prick that doesn’t take her serious and he pays for it here. He usually plays nice guys but he pulls this scumbag role with ease. It has all kinds of wacky and unique characters in this movie. The supporting cast is very strong here which includes Mila Kunis, Clifton Collins Jr., Juliette Lewis, Ellen Barkin, Jimmi Simpson, and Regina Hall. Plus it has familiar faces like Awkwafina, Samira Wiley (Orange Is the New Black), and Wanda Sykes. I actually really liked this one, it had a Fargo with a suburban twist vibe to it. It was very entertaining and it definitely has a replay value. Don’t sleep on this one, it’s worth checking out sometime. RECOMMENDED!!!!
Let’s talk about the high definition presentation from Warner Bros! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks fantastic on blu ray for it’s home video release. It captures all that Suburban madness here. The English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track is very solid. This is mainly a dialogue driven feature so it doesn’t explode or pop out on your sound system but it’s still respectful. All of the dialogue is crystal clear. The wacky criminal events and murders are elevated. The music on this actually has a real nice boost to it. It has English SDH subtitles. This disc doesn’t have any extras on it. It does come with a slipcover and a digital code. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
This movie’s kind of under the radar. Not a lot of talk about it. Thank you for the review though. I will be checking it out!
