Blink Twice Blu Ray Review (Warner Bros. / MGM)

Blink Twice is a 2024 suspense thriller co-written, produced, and directed by actress Zoe Kravitz (The Batman, X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road, and High Fidelity) for her directorial debut. It was co-written by E.T. Feigenbaum (High Fidelity and The Angel of the World). It was produced by Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook, Milk, Pushing Daisies, Bleed for This, Hook, Mousehunt, and Big Fish). The budget was $20,000,000 and it grossed $46,393,906 worldwide at the box office. When billionaire Slater King (played by: Channing Tatum from Deadpool & Wolverine, 21/22 Jump Street, Foxcatcher, G.I. Joe franchise, Public Enemies, and The Hateful Eight) meets waitress Frida (played by: Naomi Ackie from Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, Lady Macbeth, and Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody) at one of his fundraising parties, they have a natural connection. He invites her with her friend Jess (played by: Alia Shawkat from Arrested Development, The To Do List, and The Old Man) to join him plus his friends which includes Vic (played by: Christian Slater from True Romance, Heathers, Very Bad Things, Broken Arrow, Mr. Robot, The Contender, and Young Guns II), Stacy (played by: Geena Davis from The Fly, Beetlejuice, The Long Kiss Goodnight, A League of their Own, Speechless, and Fletch), Tom (played by: Haley Joel Osment from The Sixth Sense, A.I., Pay It Forward, Forrest Gump, The Boys, and Tusk), Sarah (played by: Adria Arjona from Morbius, Father of the Bride, and The Belko Experiment), Camilla (played by: Liz Caribel from God’s Time and Ellen), Heather (played by: Trew Mullen from Sunny Family Cult), Lucas (played by: Levon Hawke from The Crowded Room and Wildcat), and Cody (played by: Simon Rex from Scary Movie franchise, The Drone, and Rise: Blood Hunter), on a once in a lifetime dream vacation on his beautiful private island. At first, it’s pure paradise. They enjoy their wild nights blend into sun-soaked days and everyone’s having a fantastic time. No one wants this trip to end, but everything starts to change. It feels very strange and Frida starts to notice really odd things. She questions her reality and something isn’t right about this too good to be true situation. She secretly tries to uncover the truth but will she be able to make it out of this party alive???? Actress Zoe Kravitz steps behind the camera for the very first time. She grew up in showbiz so she’s been ready for something like this for awhile now. She helped write the tension filled script that was originally titled Pussy Island that she started in 2017. I’m honestly shocked that didn’t she play the lead character Friday in this also. I understand that she already had so much to focus on at the time. Speaking of Frida, Naomi Ackie was a nice surprise here. I’ve only seen her a few things before this and she was much better than expected as the main character. Channing Tatum as Slater King once again proves that he can actually if he’s given the right material and role. He’s mainly known for stuff that he doesn’t really have to flex much skills on to be honest. This is one of his best performances so far, he’s a fantastic villain. One of my all time favorite actors Christian Slater shows up as Vic. He’s a sleazebag and he definitely fits in King’s group of shady guests. He’s the one that loves taking pictures of all these messed up moments. Geena Davis as Stacy is one of most known preformers in this one. It’s awesome to see her in a bigger feature since it’s been a little bit. She’s the wild card, you don’t really know what she’s doing with all the others before it turns into a nightmare. The rest of the supporting cast includes Kyle MacLachlan (Blue Velvet), Haley Joel Osment, Alia Shawkat, Adria Arjona, Liz Caribel, Trew Mullen, Simon Rex, Levon Hawke, Zoe Kravitz, Lenny Kravitz (The Hunger Games franchise), Cris Costa, and Aaron Himelstein (Joan of Arcadia). Blink Twice retains an excellent build up from non stop party to absolute horror. It’s packed with thrills and suspense. It doesn’t hold back for it’s crazy finale, it’s gets super dark and very violent. I honestly wasn’t expecting this to be as great as it was. It’s one of the biggest shockers and one of my personal favorites of the year, RECOMMENDED!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation from MGM and Warner Bros Pictures! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks amazing on blu ray, I’m really surprised that this one didn’t get it’s own 4K release for home video. The beautiful locations really shine here. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, English: Dolby Digital 5.1, French: Dolby Digital 5.1, Spanish: Dolby Digital 5.1, and Italian: Dolby Digital 5.1 on the disc. This has one of the better audio presentations of the year so far. Once it really kicks in, you definitely hear it. All of the dialogue is crystal clear, the suspense is elevated, and the music has a huge boost to it. It has English SDH, French, Italian, Spanish, Dutch, Finnish, Norwegian, and Swedish subtitles. Unfortunately, there’s no special features on this home video release. It’s available everywhere right now, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
