Before Dawn Blu Ray Review (Well Go USA / Umbrella Entertainment)

Before Dawn is a 2024 war film story, produced, and directed by Jordon Prince-Wright (The Decadent and Depraved). The budget was AU$9,000,000 and it grossed $192,178 worldwide at the box office. After leaving the family’s Australian sheep farm in the outback, Jim Collins (played by: Levi Miller from Better Watch Out, Pan, Red Dog, American Exit, A Wrinkle in Time, and Supergirl) puts his life on the line and he joins the battle of World War I trying to end this gruesome conflict. As the dangerous war continues, he is forced to deal with the brutal realities of this harsh situation. He is in a non stop battle to survive it all and keep his friends alive. The soldier mission is never leaving another man behind no matter what. Who will still be there when it’s all said and done????Before Dawn is an Australian war feature from film maker Jordon Prince-Wright. It’s honestly not really a long movie at all with it’s running time but I hate to say it kinda feels like it with it’s pacing. It’s more of a slow burn character development film for the first hour. It takes you through the struggles and stress of these dedicated soldiers. The script is more about the people than the action so it’s not going to be the type of war movie that you would typically expect. It shows you a completely different side of getting ready for battle. The last 40 minutes picks up and there’s some solid action with some nice tension when it finally shows up. Before Dawn should have been like that much earlier because it loses your attention at times. Levi Miller as Jim Collins is amazing as the lead in this. He’s the best thing about it, it’s an quality acting role for the young performer. He does his best to move stuff along when it’s slower in the beginning. I will say it has a very talented supporting cast that includes Ed Oxenbould (Better Watch Out), Stephen Peacocke (Hercules), Travis Jeffery (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes), Myles Pollard (X-Men Origins: Wolverine), Tim Franklin (The Fall Guy), Lawrence Murphy (Forests and Thieves), and Paul Walenkamp (Radio Man). The strongest aspect of Before Dawn is the performances. Everyone is on point for their portrayals of these men fighting for their lives. If you go into it expecting it to be more of a drama than war, you will probably enjoy it more. It’s not bad at all or anything like that, it’s little a bit of a chore to get through until it’s explosive finale. Before Dawn is just average but I still think it’s worth checking out at least one time!!!! Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Well Go USA! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks solid for it’s blu ray debut in the states. They went for more of a gritty look when it comes to Before Dawn. The action does stand out towards the end of the war film here. It has a few different audio options which includes English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and English: Dolby Digital 2.0 on the disc. The audio is decent for the first hour, it’s actually great for the last 40 minutes in this. All of the dialogue is very clean, the drama is elevated, and the music has a nice boost to it. It has English SDH and French subtitles. It has 6 different short “Behind the Scenes” segments that includes Anzac, Authenticity, The Director, In Production, The Set, and The Story that’s a little over 7 minutes. It has various interviews with the cast and crew. All of them are quick and straight to the point. It has all kinds of behind the scenes footage that take you inside the Australian production. It has the “Trailer” for Before Dawn. It has a few “Trailers” from Well Go USA. It comes with a slipcover. It’s available everywhere next week, CHECK IT OUT!!!!
