47 Meters Down: Uncaged Blu Ray Review (Lionsgate)

Most people were probably surprised they did a sequel to 47 Meters Down. It’s from the same director, writers, & producers of the original feature but it has nothing to do with the first one. It’s just another killer shark flick from the same creative team so if you don’t have see the other movie before viewing this. I will say that it started out very slow & it took awhile to get somewhere. If you are patient with Uncaged, it definitely pays off with the other half of it. For being PG-13, it has some nice moments that pushed the boundaries for it’s low rating. As you noticed, there’s some familiar last names in this when it comes to cinema. Both Sylvester Stallone & Jamie Foxx have their daughters doing what they have done all years. Both leads Sophie Nélisse & Corinne Foxx are solid, I can’t say the same about some of their supporting cast in this. Veterans John Corbett & Nia Long boost the overall quality of the production with their experience. The script knew exactly what it wanted to do with this. It should have had a stronger opening & I thought the original feature was much better when it came to dialogue. It was very suspenseful & it had it’s fair share of thrills with some violence thrown in. For the most part, I thought it was pretty entertaining & I really liked how it ended. I seen it in theaters when it first came out, I had the same opinion as I did then for it so it’s consistent. RECOMMENDED!!!!

Let’s talk about the high definition presentation & special features from Lionsgate! This 1080p (2.39:1) transfer looks fantastic especially all the locations & the water scenes. The cinematography is very impressive here. The English: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track has a nice kick to it. The dialogue is crystal clear, all the suspense/thrills are elevated, & the music has a killer boost to it. It also has English SDH & Spanish subtitles. This release looks & sounds great! “Audio Commentary” with director Johannes Roberts, producer James Harris, & writer Ernest Riera. They go over all the basics. It has some solid background & additional information about the project. “Diving Deeper: Uncaging 47 Meters Down” is a little over 12 minutes. It has interviews with actors Sophie Nélisse, Corinne Foxx, John Corbett, Brianne Tju, & Sistine Stallone. They chat about being fans of the original film. They talk about being excited about doing this sequel & lying about some skills to get the roles. They bring the locations & how it was filming there. They mention the rough conditions during the shoot & not wanting anything to do with water for awhile. They chat about the cast & chemistry. They talk about each character being real close to their natural personalities. It also comes with a slipcover, a digital code, & a DVD copy of the release.
